Rolled it.

That's a fcuking shame. I really liked that car.

I've said for years that the back ends of Escorts are twitchy as Fcuk cornering in the wet, but nobody seems to agree. Same as how I wrote mine off before.

they are bad in the wet and you dont even have to go fast

first time mine stepped out was going round a roundabout at the trafford centre in the wet and i was not going fast at all

its a bit scary when it happens on a the m62 slip road though at 60 though

but my advice is dont lift off the throttle and it wont happen

Damn, you did a good job on that one, mate.

Good to hear you're ok though. I assume that means we can roll them and they stand up fairly well, or we can go head on into something and the airbag doesnt go off. I know which Id rather do.

Interesting how this thread has turned into "you were obviously driving too fast" vs "no, the back ends really do jump out unexpectedly in the wet" comments.

I dont know where people can say the back end of an escort is twitchy, just my opinion tho, owned escorts for 6 years, i admit sometimes i go heavy footed into corners, and the back end never twitchs, even at low speeds, whether it be in wet or dry. I think that if your back end is twitchy it could be due to the fact that you have early signs of suspension failure (dampers), in correct tyre pressures, shite tyres. Now like i said i could be wrong but mines never twitched

Glad your ok tho mate, such a shame to see someones pride and joy totalled, could of been due to a bit of oil on the road, Main thing is that your ok. Metal can be replaced but flesh n blood cnt.

if the back wheels hit Diesel....then so would the fronts.....

true but the fronts are turned into the corner which would help as apposed to the rears being dragged round the bend

to be 'dragged' with enertia i assume you mean, then surely acceleration opposed to a constant speed would come into factor? because if it was a constant speed then the backend giving way would result in the backend being pulled back straight (or following the fronts).....RWD i could understand but not FWD

I'm sorry but this has to be said.

If you are losing control (understeering or oversteering), then you are driving too fast for the conditions and capabilities of the car. IT IS THAT SIMPLE.

If you're doing it intentionally and taking the risk, then that's up to you. But blaming the car. What a load of shite. :thumb:

Hard to put into words what I mean and even then I may be completely wrong! The way I was thinking is the rear would scrub sideways instead of being turned to the bend maybe aiding grip?

In years gone by of Escort ownership standard finnesse, 1.8 ghia lowered 40mm and Coilovered Gti I've never had the back end of any of them go unless I pushed them beyond there limits so I'n unsure where the "escorts have a twitchy rear end" comes from. In fact of all the front wheel drive cars I've owned it's never happened. Now my Merc in the wet was a different story and without warning!
