That roundabout between Murdishaw, Frodsham and the Halton expressway... 45 degrees out, steering into it.... always controllable and pretty good fun. Must have had something spilt on that roundabout at some point... bloody lethal in wet until you get used to it. ace watching out-of-towners slide, panic, lock the wheels and slide more on it! 106 just understeers wildly on it.... so I can understand the sometimes wild handling of these Escorts.... I drive quite hard and i've had the back end wobble and twitch HEAVILY during heavy braking into a corner, first time though, hasnt happened since! i also need to replace all 4 tires!! Usually drop a gear an brake before the corner, take it easy on the corner, then apply power on the way out? Keep safe guys! take it easy on the corners! BTW: the back brakes on mine are worn out (handbrake cable fully tightened) yet i can pull it right up, then put it in 1st and it will pull away, bit of resistance but it does! As my old man always says, "A car can be replaced, the person inside can not". . Glad to hear that you walked away. As far as the twitching goes i have to say that, Having had several escorts, different marks and years. And having had several more escort vans, again different marks and years. I have found that the cars tend to understeer something chronic until you change the geometry of the suspension, dont think iv ever got one oversteering on me. The vans on the other hand seem to corner brilliant. Iv taken sharp corners at 50 plus and only achievement was a damaged sub. Maybe it just varies from car to car??? Good luck with any new projects. ScORTED Posted September 12, 2009 Share Posted September 12, 2009 twas indeed a nice looking mk6... shame and all that, good job you were ok but on the subject of twitchy rear ended fwd escorts, what are you lot on about, I've had alot of escorts and only once had the rear let go on the road and that was on a bad suspension setup with mis matched cheap rear tyres, all my other escorts have been between neutral and understeery bad times... you can get the back end out with provocation, i suggest all of you who have rear end problems look to worn/incorrect suspension components, wrong tyres/wheels/pressures etc unless you want to be next! Spotted your car in Campbells (was the backbox that gave it away) and pinched the s/s sill guards , was only a day or 2 later when came across this topic.
