Posted September 28, 200915 yr this is for a MK5. rite, as my cars almost done and getting more and more how i want it, i wanna look into decent suspension set up. i want something thats gonna cut it ont he track. i know naff all about suspension so help required.i know this is gonna be pricey hence why im looking now to get the money together for when its ready now im not interested in lowering springs/coilovers as thats gnna fook my handleing up. its on -60mm springs now and any rough terrain its skitty as fook. so, whats good for the job? links/prices/names would be great. im guessing im looking at 4-500 for second hand kits?
September 28, 200915 yr our very own stu can provide exactly what you need for a reasonable price, pm him
September 28, 200915 yr coilovers i would use there a good all-rounder that's what i use and i can adjust mine completely
September 28, 200915 yr Author i dont really want allrounders tho cdf, i want something for track. its gonna be a lower mileage car. its only being used weekends and trackdays/shows so i want the "relative" best
September 28, 200915 yr my coilovers haven't ruined my handling it handles better if anyting mine where set up proppaly thou
September 28, 200915 yr Author yours has been lowered alot hasnt it? id think its knackered the handleing to a point. theres been loads of threads about lowering etc
September 28, 200915 yr from what i can gather, lowing a car alone wont improve the handeling of a car in 99% of the cases it can ruin it as its not done properly
September 28, 200915 yr its only being used weekends and trackdays/shows so i want the "relative" best Assuming this is in relation to my question, so it is to be used on public roads and in which case I wouldn't go for coilovers. I'd go for either a set of Bilstein (B6 or B8 sprint dampers) or Koni's with some decent springs like H&R. The Bilstein+H&R package is around £800 new. Alternatively some OEM RS2000 springs and decent dampers as above would be a good compromise.
September 28, 200915 yr Author yes it will be used on the road stu, im guessing an all out track setup would be to harsh? will look into the dampners. do i need ones specifically for the mk5 or do you "build them up" ?
September 28, 200915 yr yes it will be used on the road stu, im guessing an all out track setup would be to harsh? will look into the dampners. do i need ones specifically for the mk5 or do you "build them up" ? I should be able to do you a good deal on a set of Bilsteins, IRO £600/set.
September 28, 200915 yr Author thats not to bad stu, what would i need to go with them? just springs (sorry if thats a thick question its something im researching now as i have no knowledge at the mo)
September 28, 200915 yr Yup, just springs, but i'd recommend a full set of Powerflex bushes too, which coincidentally I can supply. It's worth making sure your front arms are in good condition and if not replace with either a set of genuine Ford ones or any other arms (maybe your old ones) but replace the front/rear bushes with powerflex ones.
September 28, 200915 yr Author well im intending on changing all the bushes anyway and im putting a disc'd rear beam on so doing the rear beam too. what do the bush's go for as a set approx stu? and what would i be paying for springs and what springs? are they standard ride height springs or specialist ones? lastly does this require setting up? is there any adjustment etc etc or is it a bolt on jobby?
