OK so depending on whether dad's mondeo fails its MOT (which I hope it does) then I may trial fit the duratec V6 into my mk5a cabby. Has anyone on here attempted this and how much work am I looking at? Does my gearbox (IB5 I think, cars currently a 1.6 CVH EFI) fit onto the V6, and I can't remember whether the starter is at the front or rear on them?

Will I have to use the key, barrel sensor etc. with the V6 ECU?

I've never seen a V6 cab before, and think it could be pretty damn awesome

search thingy isnt liking me today, keeps saying I'm not using enough characters or something but I've tried loads of search words :s

words need to be more than 3 charctors, try duratech or something lol

philrs2k made a thread on it if that helps its in there somewhere

Things like keys are the last of your worries with a conversion like this.

thanks for them links dood, clearly not busy today? lol

interesting reading some of this, my dad also has a scorpio cosworth sat on his drive with a low mileage 2.9 cossie V6 doing nothing, but that engine just looks soooo much bigger than a duratec

The cossie v6 is a piece of shít, you really really don't want that in there.

As much as it's "cool" to have a v6, it really doesn't go nicely in a fwd Escort. Put it in longitudinally and convert it to rear-wheel drive and then you're talking.

I disagree with the comment about the 2.9 V6 being rubbish. I've had that engine in bits before and I have to say the quality of MOST of the internal components and just the overall look of it, waaay surpass the quality of say a zetec or CVH engine. If it was possible to make that fit, I would be proud to have that in my escort.

RWD just isn't viable for me, I ain't made of money and my car is a cabby remember, Don't wanna be messing with the floorpan or anything! One thing that attracts me to doing the V6 conversion was that the WHOLE car will be available to me leaving me to buy very few parts.

You appear to have convinced yourself so there's no point in further factual comments on this thread.

was talking to stoney and theres a mitsibushi gearbox (think it was evo but cant remember) which means you can put on a cossie engine to fit in a mk6 scort and have it front wheel drive...;)
