wanting to get a second 1.8 and rebuild it, so rebore, ported and polished head etc,so engine is as new but mayby with a little more power, what sort of prices am i looking at(exscluding engine), both complete and asambled, inc new seals etc or just work done and me asemble it (if i ever find time)
me did 16 valves in a rover head, with skim for around £550, sorry if thats no use, a huge amount is labour tho..

Ford don't sell oversize pistons for the zetec engine so good luck with that. Porting and 'polishing' isn't going to do anything positive for your engine unless you have the intake/exhaust to go with it (eg, £3k).

If you use genuine Ford parts and get the block fully machined including a crank grind, don't expect the rebuild and ported head to cost you much less than £1500.

what is ported and polished and how does it make things better/faster by polishing it? or have i got the wrong end of the stick lol?

Porting means changing the shape or size of the ports in the cylinder head.. it's hard to do right and very easy to do wrong...

Polishing is a term that gets thrown around far too much by people who don't even know what it means or what the benefits/downsides are..
