Posted October 23, 200915 yr Has anyone on here ever owned a speed boat? Im thinking of getting one (~17ft) and was wondering what the ins and outs are regarding maintenance. How often would you lift it out of the water for example to clean and check the hull (im thinking of keeping it moored at our local marina)? How often would you remove the outboard engine to run it through clean water etc? these are the mian things i need to know for now, but any other pointers appreciated. October 23, 200915 yr I'd take a walk to the local marina and have a chat with the people who are there doing it

October 24, 200915 yr Author Bloody hell, a speed boat. Know f*ck all about them but I'm guessing it's bloody expensive stuff! no not really, a half decent one will set you back around £1k... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EXCELLENT-SPEED-BOAT...=item3ca6af4035 http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/21857.jpg ..with marina costs of about £500 per year (my local one is £560). The main problem i have is not wanting to put a tow bar on my car, which is fine as i could borrow a car the one time i need to get the boat down to the marina, but you need to get the boat out of the water to flush the engine through with fresh water, repaint the hull and give it a good clean every now and then as salt water is corrosive. i think id need a towbar on the car for the times i do this.
