how many miles to a tank in an escort gti?

im only seeing a maximum of 270 miles to a full tank costing £45-£50 in my 97 plate 5door gti! this seems very poor to me so what mileage are you all seeing roughly?

 

most of my driving is short 10 miles trips etc and around town

As per your other thread, 250-300 miles is typical. Ignore the PRICE of petrol, that's irrelevant as it goes up and down. The amount of fuel your tank holds is a constant.

250 is the bottom end of average really. Anything more than 300 and your doing something right. Up to 390 is achievable if you drive at a steady 60 on the motorway for the whole journey.

I've had 247 miles to half a tank in my 1.6.. took all day to get to my destinations though £45 when i did it

247 miles from a full tank on mine was on bottom line of gauge after that, i still think thats rubbish though personally my xr2i 8v was a lot less thirsty and i nailed it everywhere lol

mines is only a 1.6 but the difference between the 2 engines are slim to none

ive had just short of 400 miles to a tank on a long run, think i worked it out about 44mpg

but running about the doors is rarely see anything over about 270

300 mile full tank in my 2.0 if i baby it, 200 if i have some fun...

 

my mate got 200 miles to just over half a tank in his gti, and that was mostly street driving lol.

used to average around 330 to a tank in mine, sensible driving most of the time

55L tanks in all mk6s,assume mk5bs are the same.

 

As for peopel quoting "i got such and such from half a tank" I'd take those figures with a pinch of salt as the guage is not accurate. When the gauge indicates half i highly doubt it has 27.5 litres in it. And when it says 1/4 it definately doesnt have 13.75 litres in it. Its more like 9..

So far between 300-350 miles in mine just driving about.

On motorway journeys I see about 500 miles to a tank.
