I have a 1.6LX Escort on a p 1996. The problem i am having is that first thing when engine is cold is that it starts first time everytime, yet, if i drive 100 yards and let the car idle ie pulling up to a junction etc, it cuts out, it starts again, eventually, then goes........this only happens when the engine is cold, if i let the car warm for 5 minutes its fine, but, its just an annoyance. Now i have changed the sparks the leads and even the air mass meter to no avail

 

Can anyone please help me diagnose what the problem is.

As your new its partially forgivable as your not familiar with the site features, that said try and take a moment next time to use the search function and you'll likely find (as in this case) your problem is a well documented common fault with escorts and solutions are readily available in previous threads.

 

search for - "ICV" (Idle Control Valve) and/or "Stalling problem"
