driving standards

The only thing that gets me really is all the knobs that sit on my arse in the truck, do they not understand that if they are as close as most get, I can barely see them? if at all???

on the Motorway on Saturday, I was in the outside lane, had some french T*at keep getting right up my backside, there is no way I was moving over as I was doing just over the limit anyway and I was passing other vehicles.... idiot kept getting so close that I could not see him in my mirrors, got to the point where it really Fcuking annoyed me so I slammed the anchors on.....Lets just say he soon backed off..... :nutter:

I HATE TAILGATERS

I hope you're joking, but don't think you are :(

I find driving standards as a whole are the same as when I started driving. However driving in different areas shows different habits. When I lived in Scotland I very rarely saw anyone being an idiot, and incredibly rarely got annoyed by others driving. However when I visit my Folks in Birkenhead I am immediately annoyed by the way they drive, as soon as you exit the motorway into Liverpool you're playing dodgems.

Then there is the oxfordshire country road problem of people doing 40 in a 60 all the fecking time (Its almost guaranteed that i'll overtake at least 1 car doing this on any given trip from here to swindon)

Ok, so I exagerated a bit.. I did not slam the anchors on, I put the brake light on and just let the truck slow on its own accord.... he did back off afterwards though.....

He was literally kissing my towbar. :(

I would not just suddenly brake on a motorway, it is a stupid thing to do.... I can be a drama queen sometimes Sid come on you know that! Lol.

I think Liam is right, the test needs to be better. I also think that people should have to retake their test every so often, to prove that they are still able enough to drive (OAP's etc.). The amount of old people that haven't got a f'king clue is incredible, and is increasing as people live longer, and continue using their cars.

I failed my first test, and I'm sure that I am a better driver because of it (less cocky etc.). I got in the car, and drove it almost every day (still do), as i'm still learning, even 3 years after passing. I think another problem is young people that drive a couple of times here and there, then go away to uni etc. At the end of the day, you only learn to control the car in lessons. You do the real learning after you pass, in real world situations.

Im sure they dont account for many overall but recent influx of immigrants round ere has seen the local rozzers repeatedly nickin em for driving on the wrong side of the road, ignoring mini roundabouts, running non registered minicabs and just outright driving without any consideration for any other road issue.

last year I read somewhere that 14 immigrants were caught in the merseyside area running illegal cabs and it then turned out 7 of them were regected asylum seekers X(

add to that list no tax, insurance and in some cases no mot :censored:

been driving since 1987,ive learned to treat all as idiots on the road and drive accordingly.

i used to drive bikes(up to 125cc)when i was younger and i feel it made me a better driver and learn to anticipate people doing stupid things,

think everyone should at least ride a bike/moped for a week and see the road from a different view(no comfort zone of sitting in a tin box)

also just coming down the road tonight and a wee saxo lad was about 3 ft from my back bumper, what the feck is that all about,as lee said i touched the brake a bit to put the brake lights on and watched him panic as he thought i was slowing quickly.

Nope, crap drivers' standards are still just as crap as they've always been. I wouldn't mind betting the ratio of shite to good drivers is roughly the same as it was in the 1950s. It's simply that there are that many cars on the roads these days that you're far more likely to run into a crap one. Even if 90% of drivers all think they're above average!

But think about how many vehicles you interact with each day as you go about your business. For a pro driver like LeeR it could be few thousand each day.

Most of these are reasonably well driven, cause you no grief, so you don't give 'em a second thought once you've passed them. You only remember the knob-end who carves you up giving you a good reason to remember them.

I do have to laugh at the peeps who've been driving, like, 10 minutes, moaning at how bad the standards have got though... Compared to what? Their original Playstations?! :pancake:

Craig's spot on about the regional differences too. Down here, red lights apparently mean "stop only if you have to"!
