Craig855S
In your shoes the estates would be my port of call, there's something magical about a fast estate... Especially one with a loud turbo and rwd! Where are the turbo'd rear wheel drive estates at? Volvo 850s and V70s are either FWD (mostly) or AWD (rarer)I love bm's but for what you need and the sleeper factor I'd get the quicker Volvo have you thought about the Subaru impreza estate? Thought about it, but the insurance is nearly double what i'd pay for ANY of the other cars listed above, And i dont want pay a premium like that to have a dogshit interior, i though of legacy GTBs as well as theyll be more practical and slightly less insurance (due to them being less desirable and less popular with chavs) but the interiors are god awful. I'll update this topic in 6 months with what i've bought. I can see it being......erm.....A BMW, or a Volvo..lol It really does depend on whats about at the time

Stezz
Can I ask why you don't want to go down the Mk3 Mondeo road? Surely they would would be cheaper to run, Insure etc. Reading through various Mondeo forums, the only issue with the Mk3's is the rear subframe bushes. I too plan to replace the Escort in October and have looked at BM's, Jags etc but always seem to look at mondeos. It has to be a Ghia X, maybe the 2.0 or the 2.5 as the ST220's are still a bit to much money at the moment. KNITERIDER
At about the Nissan estate with the skyline engine in? Can't remember it's name I know it's automatic tho or is it to old? Easily tuned reliable and looks nice? Just a wild card?
Craig855S
Can I ask why you don't want to go down the Mk3 Mondeo road? Only the ST220 meets my criteria of "fun" and that means out of my budget, a fully specced Ghia X in the final facelift could be a good contender but thats out of budget and i think id quickly get bored of it (Hence why im bored of my volvo, its perfect in every way apart from the performance) As for the nissan stagea, the R34s are out of my budget and the others look horrific inside and out. Remember my criteriaLuxuryPerformancePracticality Running costs are not really a concern (but i dont wanna be stupid and pay a grand a year insurance on something like an M5 when i can get "more than enough" performance from a volvo with half the insurance costs

You can also get a front end R34 conversion (haven't we already had this conversation? Or am I replying to a tpic i've already replied to? ) http://www.monkys.jp/e/img/600DSC50015.jpg Edited February 19, 2010 by LiamGTR

Craig855S
Yeah i cant afford the mega bucks to get the R34 conversion (or buy one pre-built) and i think the interior is god awful, it doesnt meet the criteria of luxury...not one bit

Maybe driving one would put you in an informed position. Even the 2.0 TDCi had 130ps and more torque than you would ever need, it can seriously shift, the handling is great when you are pushing on a bit, a really underated way of getting around. Find a 2.2 version and you have 155bhp and a good bit more torque, over 300ft,lb. Granted, my Titanium X is a late model, so I paid late model prices, but there wasnt anything else around that had the same economy, power and value for money. Craig855S
Link to one in budget Trig? I doubt im gonna find a Ghia X with the diesel in budget. A ghia x 2.2 sounds like an ok wild card... but then, theyre not good looking cars unless you get the sporty bumpers and big wheels... wheras for just fractions of my budget i could get a car that would jump up and down all over a mk3 mondeo in most respects Such as interior looksexterior looksperformancepracticality ok an E34 BMW or volvo 850 and phase 1 V70 wont have bluetooth and voice activation...but those are things id never use anyway.
