Goodbye Escort, Hello Mondeo Zetec S

Well money improved, i wanted something more modern, and a diesel.

So was looking at tdci mk3 mondeo's among other things, from LX - Ghia X.

Around here they go for anything between £2,500 - £4,500 with 100,000+ miles on the clock.

Then this little beauty came up.

2003 2.0 Zetec-S TDCi

100,000 on clock, full ford service history, years mot, refurbed alloys with very good tyres and best valet i have ever seen.

Not a single dent or scratch, and very very few stone chips, its mint'ish (for a 100k car anyway!)

£2,995

These are just the trader's photos, my own will follow once i collect it Sunday / Monday.

Will just be buying some crystal / clear side repeaters, some genuine ford mats and genuine ford key ring for it.

Then job done and stick it in for a service.

What does Evo make of my move from escort to mondeo?

Fookin love these! Mileage is a little high for me (but I am weird like that)

Car looks in great condition though and the price is good.

I would lower it if it were mine (just 30mm)

Regardless, I'll bet you enjoy it!

PS. You should try and get newer rear lights (54 onwards iirc) They tidy up the backend a treat

I LOVE this choice, i cant imagine why :P

Ive had mine since june last year and i love it, ive done a fair bit to it :), mines a pre facelift model too but ive got a few factory options from std :)

Looks well, as said get the 2004 onwards rear lights, they tidy it up so nice,

nice buy mate

Your wrong there gaz, its late 03 onwards, or 05 onwards for the final facelift lights like mine

Thanks for all the comments people, i am really excited about getting it.

It is such an upgrade from the escort (despite how much i will always love my escort).

It is in perfect condition mate, not a single scratch or dent.

But sadly the usual rust hiden under the bottom of the doors, which i'll treat.

Im looking at lowering it 30mm (no lower) but shocks and springs are expensive!!

I do like the 54 onward rear lights, but i have to say i prefer the rear lights being all red.

I like how the all-red-rear-lights blend into the red paintwork.

looks tidy mate

i would like one but i want the st tdci

I really wanted an st tdci mate, but they were just out of my price range regardless of milage.

They go for silly money, so i thought the zetec-s was the next best option.

Shares a lot of the good looks, but with the lower price tag and insurance!

oooh lol Kev's gonna hate you!

he wants one of these, me personally am not a huge fan of mondeos, but does look nice, and with a FFSH you cant go wrong - no matter how many miles are on there. If its been cared for its going to be good :thumb:

Thats fair enough mate, each to their own.

It does have full service history (all but one ford main dealer as well)

Last service was in 03.2008 though, but that was at 93.5k miles.

Its only on 101k miles now and no service light showing.

Recon thats a problem?

However i'll be sticking it in for a full service next week.

yep - she was right, you arse muncher ;( very nice though - not keen on them in pepper red - but still a hell of a car

Haha. I actually quite liked the colour, a bit different and have not seen as many in this colour.

Is it pepper red? Because it is a different red to the escort pepper red.

And the sales invoice from the trader says 'candy red'?

So not sure yet, will check vin once i get paperwork.

Mate, yours looks the boll-ocks! I don't dislike anything you have done to it!

Really impressive! And a proper inspiration.

I wont be going to any extent like yours with modifications.

Immediate plans for mine are:

Crystal side repeaters and bulbs (like the facelift)

Genuine ford mats

Some new ford centre caps for alloys to accompany refurbed alloys

Future plans:

30mm shocks and springs drop

Little boot lip spoiler

And thats about it really, wanting to keep it as genuine as possible except the drop.

People have told me to get the facelift rear lights with chrome and chrome grill surround.

But i quite like the all read rear lights that blend into the red paint colour, and the colour coded grill surround.

Not a fan of chrome on anything other than a silver car. Make sense?

personally a fan of the mk3, they do most things very well, good car choice, just lacking in the fun department

I do know what you mean mate, not the most 'road / fun experience car'.

But it goes like rubbish off a shovel, and i need a car safe enough for my son.

has the clutch and flywheel been changed at all? make sure they are both ok before you buy. Expensive fix

No history of clutch or flywheel from what i could see when i looked.

But there may be some within all the paperwork, will look when i get it all.

The clutch is fine though, but will garage and mechanic mate's point of view on both.

CORRECTION TO -dutchkev-

Trader sales invoice says cherry red, not candy red.

I know this may be wrong though.

 :innocent:

As has been said, make sure the flywheel/clutch has been replaced, when i was looking for a tdci i wast going to buy it unless they have been done, my car has a receipt for over £900 for them being done in 2008, also the rea subfame bushes, but thats not as expensive.

I think the car is either pepper red or infra red, im pretty sure pepper red tho, because infra red is an ST colour.

Have you thought about doing the headlights "black eye" ?
