Water leak - drivers footwell?

Hi Guys,

This weekend I had a good look round the front area of the drivers side to see were the water was getting in. Saturday it was not raining, so I got the hose pipe out and gave the front screen a good sprinkling. Soon enough I had water running down the inside of the bulkhead ,and coming out onto the floor below the fuse box. So I got my head as far up behind the dash as I could get it, with a torch. I could just see right at the top, just to the top right of the large wirring loom groumet into the engine bay, a small area in the corner were there was dripps of water getting in. You could see were the rain had brought dirt in, and left a streak as it run into the car. Due to a lack of space, as to get to it I would off had to removed the dash. And I need the car for work monday. I thought I would hopefully solve this leak from the otherside of the car.

So I removed the front wheel, and plastic inner arch which allowed me to get to the other side of the large wirring groumet. The water from the screen runs into the area were the ABS unit is, then thru a hole in the inner wing. And runs down the outside of the inner wing to exit onto the floor. Were the water runs down the inner wing, it is getting back into the interior of the car. Could not see were from this side, but had a good idea. But must be due to a small hole in a area off original seam sealer. The area of the ABS unit had a bit of dirt and leafs, but in very good condition with no rust etc. So I am sure this area is leak free.

The picture below of the large wirring groumet. The problem area is to the left around a small ledge under the mass of wires.

So I purchased a tube of Granvils seam sealer, and went over all the original sealer, paying attention to the area to the left of the large groumet behind the mass of wires in the picture below. Once this had cured. I then coasted this area in a waterproof roof sealant which is basically a substance like tar in a aerosole can. And then undersealed the complete inner wing.

I have just popped back in from checking inside the car for leaks today. I have still got one, but in a different position as its further along the fllor....Bugger! But much less than it was the other day (and it has poured down all night and this mourning). It looks like I have had two leaks. The main one I have spoken about above is gone. But I have a smaller one which looks to be inline with the clutch pedal and is leaving a small pool on the floor. This will need a bit more exploring to find were it is getting in from next week.

I found water in my footwells-coming from inside of door, water splashing inside door card and onto floor-new plastic sheeting sorted that one.Still water in footwells.

Stripped car-found real leak was at bottom of rear screen in corner dripping onto wheel arch and ending up in footwell.

You need to strip out completely it is the only way to test for the source of the water-remeber it ends up at the lowest point always!!!!!!!!!

What is the best product to seal windscreen rubbers 1978 mk 2 escort rubber with chrome inserts?

thats the thing with water, it will always find a way through, you bung up one route and it will find another! hope you have luck fnding it but look for the common most outer point of the evidence, trace it back to the ultimate source of the leak! probably the same one as before but it just found another way down to the footwell.
