Lee R
not totally sure if i'm missing the point here but: I go in Comet and get advise off a salesman about a TV. He reccommends a TV. I go next door to A.N.Other discount Electrical superstore because they have the product £100 cheaper. But I shouldn't do this because I took up 15 mins time of an ALREADY PAID salesman? As said, i've work in retail, and giving advise for no gain is part of the job.
sidrick
I think the point is a lot of salesmen are commission based. To me...... it's wrong to do what you describe above, Lee, if the salesman is on commission, as all the information you will ever need about ANY given product is available online, for free. Trig
I just believe that time is valuable and that if you have no intention of compensating someone for their time then you shouldn't take their time when there are other people that will. I think you are missing my point, Its quoted above. You example is a poor one, for a start its very rare these days that you see that sort of disparity in price. But say you take 15 mins and they have nothing to show for it, and so does every other Tom, Dick and Harry. It looks like that paid person has returned nothing to the organisation, that has to pay them regardless of all the time wasters that bob in to take advantage of their learnings. The organisation loses its time and has no revenue for it and cutbacks have to be made, jobs lost, businesses close down... If you dont want to pay for something, then you shouldnt have it, simple. wwwd
Trig, I'm assuming you're not talking about a product you can pick up off the shelf are you? Which what this thread is mainly about.
Trig
Trig, I'm assuming you're not talking about a product you can pick up off the shelf are you? Which what this thread is mainly about. Bricks, bits of timber. So, yes. The op is talking about a slightly more specialist product than your supermarket variety tinned veg, which needs using in the right sorts of ways to get the best from, so not really a pick up off the shelf blindly product is it? Unless you already know the ins and outs of it and what it does anyway. Where if you do know what its about, you dont need advice about using it and what is best for your situation. Protein is available on the shelves at Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys, if you're making the comparison with supermarkets. So yes, it is a product you would research yourself and then buy in the shops. Obviously, I wouldn't go into the supermarket and buy bricks and build my own extension. The thought of that is preposterous, and certainly not in the same league as a tub of protein you can buy for a tenner at Tesco. But hey, if you still don't get what I'm saying I won't bother wasting my time.
Craig855S
Best practice would be to research the product youself online then buy from the cheapest retailer...But obviously sometimes that is not practical (with TVs you want to see the 2 your considering side by side, you dont have to waste an assistants time. Yes its abusing the shop but that's what they're there for, window shopping..
Danzetec
Its probably best that they don't advise people what supplements they consume in case they have adverse effects and become liable, this could of happened in the past and be the reason they can't give advise? But hey, if you still don't get what I'm saying I won't bother wasting my time. I dont think my point is void, we are talking about a product which you can go and buy very easily regardless of how much you know about it. Or is my point void because you dont know how to use bricks but you do know how to use the various proteins? Protein might well be available off the shelf in Tesco, but because it is, it doesnt mean that I would understand what I was I needed and what the benefits would be. This would give me two options, either trawl through the internet for a few hours and take it as gospel, or I could go to an expert and get their advice. You say its a product you "would" research yourself, which is incorrect, the word you really wanted to use is "could", that is the difference. Doreen on the till in Tesco couldnt tell me which protein to use and how to get the best results, hence the reason it is probably cheaper than going to a specialist, the specialist in in a position to give advice, Doreen isnt, hence the usual price difference. Best practice would be to research the product youself online then buy from the cheapest retailer...But obviously sometimes that is not practical (with TVs you want to see the 2 your considering side by side, you dont have to waste an assistants time. Yes its abusing the shop but that's what they're there for, window shopping.. Craig, do you really not know what a shop is for? I would have thought you were able to grasp such a basic concept as what reason shops exist for.
Brown
Lol, i think its safe to say that Trig has a rather bizarre opinion on shopping etiquette and it is obvious that the majority of us do not agree. No amount of posts are going to clarify this any further.
