what made you choose to buy an escort

as title really, what made you choose an escort to drive?

is it the styling, price, or what ?

why did you choose a particular model of escort ?.

i chose to buy an escort as i have mainly owned fords and have had the mk 2,3,4,5,5b, 6 escort range.

i like the simplicity of the car to work on and cheapness of parts, and the readily available source of second hand parts to modify the car.

i chose my current escort as it fitted my budget and it was a very clean example with low miles and will fulfill my everyday needs, probably other types of cars that fit the bill but hey i like fords too much i think.

would like a cosworth but unless i win the lottery my finances wont allow that to happen(we can all dream)

my reasons In order.....

1. styling (not to boxy not overly curvy with just a touch of aggression)

2. easy of maintanence (theres not much you cant fix on a driveway imo)

3. running costs (aslong as the above is kept up there pretty dam cheap to run)

4. comfort (a nice balance of comfort and handling is a essential)

5. qaulity of drive (obviously in comparison to equally aged vehicles)

6. Reliability (we all joke about - Fix Or Repair Daily but tbf a well maintained scort will go forever)

Back when I bought my first I bought it because;

It was the best looking 5 door hatch within my price range when I was 18, and it had "modding potential" (meaning that I'd noticed aftermarket parts were available for it)

After i ruined that one with lax flower crap and crashed it I replaced it with another mark 6, and owned 2 more after that, because, they were cheap, i knew them inside out, and they look better than other cars in the class.. Mk3 astras come to mind...euugh

I bought my first one because I got bored of looking for a 306TD which is what I wanted as my first car.... each one I looked at was crap and then I happened to spot an Escort for sale with my 3 initials at the end of the numberplate- L771 MKW or something like that. Anyway thought it was worth a look at it was cheap. Loved the car as soon as I test drove it and bought it there and then. Wrote that off and was gutted as I loved it so bought another.. on Escort number 7 now and certainly wondering why the hell I have kept chosing Escort!!

Had my first Escort for first 6 months of driving, mainly because I liked them compared to what else was available. Was good but a basic silhouette model, no eleccy windows or c/l so I bought a BMW(recently). Will hopefully stick to BMW unless the right RST or something comes up when I can afford insurance.

My first escort was given too me, i scrapped it after toying with it for 3 years and got a fiesta, when i passed my test shortly after i got a mk6 fiesta that was only 3 years old on a 54 plate in 2008, i had this for 6 months covering 15k and looked at modding but was too expensive, my original plan was to buy a mk6 escort hatchback, so i thought sod it, i came across a silver finesse 86k mot and tax on a T reg in november 2008 i got in contact and the guy offerd me £1900 plus the escort for my fiesta, decided to take it as the fiesta had 85k and was close to the escort anyway, my 1.4 fiesta was crap on fuel but the 1.6 escort was great, i got the gti bits and interior for it along with better wheels and got it looking smart, in feb 2009 the belt slipped knocking the timing out, which bent valves also, got it home and it just died, was gutted as i was skint, then i rememberd heavyright foot had a1.6 lx for sale so decided t take that, and got that looking good 2, i spent a fourtune on it but was worth it, i kept that nearly a year, i decided to sell as was out of work and the escort needed afew things doing, i got a ka for a runabout was ok untill end of jan this year the clutch decided to died on me, And i wanted a diesel car next so got the escort derv, which is far one of the best cars i've had so far

what does it for me is

there cheap, i like the style, it looks good with the right mods, comfy, good mpg, not as noisey as a diesel van,

i prefer this style of car over most of todays styleing as the ew cars are starting to look abit like spaceships lol

i keep saying its my last scort but, i'm after a focus next which is basicly an escort,

My dad had a few MK2 escorts and I loved them from day one, I ALWAYS loved the MK4 escorts, and then I got my first car which was a 3 door 5B.

Just love Escorts all together, the MK5 & 6 are great shapes, sp much potential and things you can do to them, Cheap to fix & cheap enough to run.

Once I have moved into a better house with more space, I know I will own another escort, pref a MK4 and restore it, do a proper Job on it. :)

Also, Evo just made me fall more and more for them.

I bought mine as it was a cheap run around while my MR2 was having a engine transplant done.

I just took the escort on a 300 mile round trip with no problems at all. Took it from Warrington down to Cirencester in Gloucestershire and back and apart from going through the roadworks the car did pretty well being held at 85mph all the way and I still have just under half a tank of fuel left.

So I will be keeping the escort, until October at least, when I upgrade it to a MK3 Mondeo
