BillyCabrio
I've got a 1.6 Zetec Escort as a run around and the poor lump has died at the evil hands of my sister lol... So i've bought a 1.8 to plop in its place, now i know the lump will go in as i fitted it over the weekend but its just not starting The car has the little red thing in the key - but its the only key i have, so should i put in an ECU from a 1.8 Escort to sort the non starting issues out or am i on the wrong wavelength here? Any chance of being pointed in the right direction? If so, maybe an idea of the ECU 4 letter code i'd need to look out for? Thank you in advance! kevscort15
I think you may be on the wrong wave length ,i fitted a 1.8 to my missus car and shes quite happily running around on the original 1.6 ecu ,some people say its proberley running lean but its been in there 5yrs and its still running with no problems
SteveB
So what do you mean by not starting? Does it crank?
BillyCabrio
Hi, It turns over fine, everything is as it should be as we stripped the old 1.6 down to just the head and block and put all the auxcillary bits onto the 1.8 i.e. power steering, inlet/exhaust manifolds, alternator, loom, etc... So in my head the 1.6 ecu still thinks that its the original 1.6 engine and not a 1.8. But we can't work out why it won't fire up? Fuel is there, but the injectors aren't pulsing and the plugs are dry as a bone. Grrrrrrrrrr!

BillyCabrio
Yep, all the basic checks have been done. Now you mention it, i don't recall there being a spark

You've either left the plug off or put the wrong one on.
BillyCabrio
Ah really? There's defo a plug on it, any idea how i tell if its the right one? There can't be many plugs on that part of the loom...

Apparently the plug from the temp sensor fits. Someone else on here swapped them over and had similar issues to you.
