Heat matts are the worst heat source for a wooden viv. Firstly in a wooden viv it gas to be in the viv, this means the snake can wrap itself around it and burn, water can be spiltt on it, if the stat fails it can set fire to wood pluss heat mats only heat the floor meaning the viv may be to cold.

There the cheap and nasty heat source, ok for plastic RUB's as they ur underneath rubbish in a viv. Cheapest most effective option would be a ceramic bulb or a heated light on a dimmer stat.

As to moving to a bigger viv it depends on the snake from what I have read corns should be at least the length of the viv pluss a bit more or it can cause stress.

As to snakes being handled, they don't like it they put up with it, this is why regular handling is essential so they get used to it and don't get to stressed.

As to moisture spray a light mist every day/other day and a more heavy mist when snake is comming to a shed ,wrinkly skin blue eyes etc) feed outside of the viv so they don't swallow substrate and leave snake alone for 3-4 days to digest food with no handleing or u risk regurge which is dangerouse.

Hope that's readable as I'm on my phone in the shower lol

HAHA dont get ya phone wet...

Ok, i will look into getting a ceramic heater or heater bulb.

Dan: What have you gone for?

If they like enclosed areas, how do they live in the wild?

For moisture, i was thinking of getting a waterfall or one of them humidifiers..

You have to remember you have got a nearly wild animal put him in an enclosure where every so often this big monstor sticks his head in and starts moving and grabbing you, in the wild they don't have this problem lol it's a common trait with pet snakes but mainly corns.

You don't want to much moisture as this can cause redpiritory infections pluss corns especially like to poo in water bowls and a waterfall wouldn't be to healthy. Humidity can be easily kept with a spray bottle, that's what 99% people use so I'd stick with that.

Ps kepping your moss box moist (aye aye) should provide most of the humidity. I have alot off moss spread over my viv as when I spray it holds the moisture.

heres a couple of old pics of KAA my cornsnake as a baby and a bit older but not recent ones, hes just over three feet now, these pics were when he was about 2.5" maybe?? god knows, ive got a big cube exo terra glass viv since these pics looks awesome, ill have to get some new pics up but hes currently about to shed so ill take them after when he is all nice and colourful again.

For those with corns already... what do yours shed like?? mine does it all in one every time with no problems at all and gives me a perfect snake lengthed skin that i keep each time to see the growth, but my mates corn does it over a few days and it just flakes off all over the place, with mine its just like he takes his pjamas off and steps out of them, just wondering what other peoples do?

Also the 6 - 7 months i had him he would always shy away and hide (naturally) but now hes a bit bigger he will always hang about on show in the viv so people can see him and alot of the time now if im in my room alone during the evening he will be up at the glass doors wanting to come out to explore, i open them and hes straight out onto my hands, sits on my shoulders etc. is anyone else this lucky? i love having a sociable snake now!

Ill upload my latest pics soon and of my set up but heres the old ones..some of you may remeber him...

He's pretty much the same pattern as mine!

Poor shedding is due to low moisture levels, I give mine a bath when nearly ready a shed pluss spraying keeps his shed good, love them vivs but all snake forums advised me against them due to there lack of floor space?

You can get them pretty big mate, i read a lot about corns before buying one and read a few places that they love to climb and explore, so what lacks in floor space i make up for with nicely arranged wood branches and that so hes happy, got flat pieces of bark he loves to chill out on on a couple of different levels in there, if he starts showing any signs of unhappiness when he gets a bit bigger ill upgrade again cos although my viv is quite big they still go bigger yet, i love bein able to look in all the way around and that.

Iv sin snakes twice the size stored in similar sized vivs in reptile stores and they claim its ok so im not too bothered all the whilst he seems happy

Yeh the pattern looks so nice just after he sheds hes well bright aswell!

Hes started tunneling a fair bit now aswell in the shavings, as the bottom of the viv is glass its pretty impressive when you look up from underneath lol

ill inform my mate about the shedding and lack of moisture and see if he can make a difference thanks for that.

Im looking foward to getting some current pics up now, didnt realise that many people were into their snakes on here.

And so you can see the size of him..

He was really placid, he didnt mind me ppicking his up and just slid round my hand for a bit then just curled up, as i put him back in i hovered him over the water bowl and he leant down for it, dipped his mouth in and had a drink, you could see his cheeks puffing in and out, quite amazing really.

I use a heat bulb.

Also mine is really wierd when shedding. I used to put in a moss box everytime he showed signs of shedding, however when he got older he stopped using it, i kept putting one in everytime he was to shed, but never went in it.

The thing is he shed perfect everytime, no tears and no bits left on his body. So now I dont bother with a moss box. Also he does it really quickly, blink and you'll miss it lol.
