Iv always used a heat mat, got it under his cave on the floor of my viv, thats where he knows it it, he goes there to digest or if its a cold night etc the rest of the time hes happy just being out and about or chillin up his tree.

IMO far easier than a heat bulb jus leave it plugged in all the time and he goes where he wants and it jus keeps a focused area warm and the rest stays cooler.

I have a uv light that i keep on during the day that dosent give off heat and isnt too strong and im picking up one of the slightly blueish tinted nightglow bulbs tonight for night times, they look the nuts when you look in and just simulate natural moonlight so arnt strong enough to harm the snake.

How do people go about feeding theirs? I vary mine, most of the time as soon as the door is opened he smells the food and is straight out and on the case so i dangle it and let him strike at it. Other times ill hide it somewhere and let him find it which usually dosent take long, iv fed him a couple of times by dangling it and when he strikes and wraps it i give the tail a lil tug so he thinks its still alive and squeezes it more too, not very often but i prefer mixing it up than just leaving the mouse in there in the same place. Wouldnt happen like that in the wild.

No they are not needed, i just prefer to use one during the day to brighten up the viv a bit more as my room dosent get a great amount of sunlight, they really do bring out colouring and patterns on the snake though, apparently they good for the skin too but not too sure.

Do you think black bulb might be good, you dont get the UV rays then

Does anyone want a free corn snake?

Im getting a viv that already has a snake, but obviously, i dont want the snake lol.

Not sure mate i cant say i know a great deal about what lighting is appropriate for snakes i just ask in the 2 reptile stores i use, never asked about a black light, would look nice but not sure if it will harm the snake??

As for getting another snake i have thought about it but there are so many mixed views about whether or not its ok to have 2 in one viv, some say its fine but i dnt want to risk it really might be unfair on my snake.

Yeah thats my snake, and thats a double bed lol. Hes getting a big 'un.

Pinkies will only need a short time to defrost, or hold them in your hand making a fist for 10mins or so. (I'd leave them on the side for an hour to save holding a dead mouse)

he his huge!! lol

When was that vid done?

Lights are all well and good but snake need a "night time" leaving it on over night can be very bad for them so you would need another heat source. Also around any thing emitting hea like bulbs or ceramics heaters you need a guard around them as the snake will wrap around it and burn really badly.

Heat mats are ok, but I'd avoid them in wooden vivs for reasons I mentioned. The good thing is they are cheap BUT with a bulb or ceramic can regulate the temp in the hole viv not just the floor.

You need a hot and cold end with a hide and water bowl in each so the snake can thermoregulate.

I always feed my corn in a seperate RUB but my boa will only eat in her viv in the night. Niether of mine have struck that I have seen, will try with my corn when I get some big tweezers as I don't fancy my hand being struck lol

Also meant to ad uv lights arnt neede to keep snakes healthy they get all their nutrients from food and drink.

I don't know I anyone else did this with feeding but I have gone from mice pinkies to rat pinkies when the snake was a bit older ( about 16 inches) as they contain more nutrients and protien than mice, since bein on them he has grown very quickly bit no ecome fat or look like he ha been power fed, seems to have done him th world of good. Fuzzie mice next but not for a few months

Dan and fresh dfm have you ever put yours in the bath? Obviously on there own lol for a swim? I fin it good exercise :)

they can swim in the bath????!!!!!!! never heard of that lol, cant say i have.

The above comment about defrosting a pinkey in your hand isnt a recomended way of doing it though as it smothers the snakes food with your scent and therefore evry time you approach it it will be wondering...shall i eat him?? lol

Yeh i fed min rat pups for a while its a bit awkward because sometimes the jumps from each size arnt good enough, i mean rat pups became too small but fluffs were too big at one point for my snake so i fed him too small rat pups, otherwise he would eat 1 within seconds and just be sprinting around the viv still looking for food and i prefer knowing he has had enough

Ohhh yes! Few inches, deeper for bigger snakes I put a cave in the middle with the top just sticking out the water for them to perch on ha to be quiet cool as they are cold blooded use ur elbow so it needs to be cool to te touch.

Using the cave has the added bonus of it wing wet when u put it back keeping it moist in the viv.

They do try n get out but the bigger they get the more they enjoy it, I leave them in there for about half hour making sure it doesn't get to cold.

Baths are also good if th snake gets Ill use 1 3rd powerade and it does them the world of good...and I'm not taking the pee either.
