bullsrs
Hi matey, the later model like yours should have the washer bottle behind the bumper, which makes it a damp spot and can rot the contacts on the washer pump, please bear in mind that the mk4 escorts were prone to light and wiper stalk failure (even though your wipers work)so check that you are getting power to the pump and trace back if you are not(you can buy a circuit tester from halfords for £13 which has a probe to pierce the wire and enables you to do checks all the way along the wire) lastly if you can hear the pump working but no water coming out clean your washer jets with a pin,if that doesnt work check for kinks along the piping and take your washer pump back out, remove the filter which the pump fits into in the washer bottle, as this can clog up,and it`ll stink,it will just prise out with a flat blade screwdriver and push back in with your fingers, clean it by squeezing it under a running tap, this should sort it,roy. bullsrs
No worries matey, had a few 3i`s so give me a shout if theres anything else i can help with, i should say there is a possibilty that your car has the efi system which came out on the 89/90 model it has the induction trunking which goes over the rocker cover like on the 8v xr2i, if this is yours then there is a valve on the airbox which were causing this problem when new i cant remember if it was the hitachi valve at fault or if that was the type of valve at fault
