Okay first problem is this.

At low speeds there is a very loud whirring noise while steering. It sounds like low power steering fluid but the fluid is full. Would this be the power steering pump itself or something else? It feels like there is some resistance when steering also.

Second problem. Recently the car keeps idling too high. Not by much, say an extra 500rpm or so, but its quite noticeable when sitting still. It doesn't do this every time it is driven though. What could this be?

Car is a mk5 XR3i 130.

does it continue to make the noise once youve stopped adding turns to the wheel but not taken them back off? (half lock and held in other words).... if yes Id say rack, if no I say pump
