Just so you know, VED (usually referred to as road tax) is not a tax to maintain the roads, thats paid for by your council tax.

Are you planning to claim for an alloy even though it damaged a steel wheel?

Also, taking on a speed bump at 25mph :-\

Still we pay tax, £200 a year on this, and things like this happon, this is nothing compared to some round here lol, and people wonder why i wont lower my car

It's sh!t mate, we've got loads of massive potholes where I live and the council aren't sorting them out.

There's a useful website with information here:

From what I understand though, the council are b@stards and probably won't give you anything.

send your local council the pics and demand a new wheel and tyre to be paid for by them

i'm not arsed about the wheels, its the tracking and lower arms i'm worried about,

25mph is just a rough jester, it wasen't that fast at all but thats not the point, the fuckers there,

if i could i'd video it at 20mph or lower just to prove my point, but i'm not driving over it again, this aint the first i've hit ether

do i email them, i haven't got a printer so cannot do it through post

i hope they pay for a new wheel even if its a steelie, my alloys on back hit it aswell,

i've heard they can get arsey, theres hunderds round here, your driving along nice steady pace then bang!, some you carn't even see them sometimes

give em a call and tell them and ask how they want the proof, you can always plug your camera into a machine in a chemists and get instant prints if you do have to post it,demand the money for the tracking too

IIRC our road fund licence is to help towards our road network, as is part of the duty on fuel. however it is up to the local authority to maintain the roads and they get funding from this from both our council tax and the government through our road and fuel tax.

motorways etc are covered purely by road fund and fuel duty as they are not responsibility of councils.

councils are asking the government for more money as they dont have a sufficient budget to repair every road in britatin that needs doing (which is pretty much every road in britain)

any damage to wheels or suspension (this is what has killed my front shocks, but i cant prove it) need to be claimed against the council. upside is you get money and they are aware that it needs repairing, downside is, they'vegiven out the money in claims that they need to spend on the road

Weird, I was just thinking how bad the roads are these days.. its ridiculous in some parts of Manchester

Gary, all our roads in Manchester are UTTER shite! you want to drive down princess parkway!!! my truck is unable to avoid this one pothole... and it hits it with such force the truck shudders and actually swerves, so have to grip it firmly.....

Road tax is a bunch of hoo hah, it doesnt get used to fix our roads thats for sure. :vangry:

Edit: just noticed Trig say that the car tax is not for the roads. What exactly do we pay it for then?

Come round to mine later you can use my Printer fella...... I'll help you type it out as well. better to send it in the post than email...

I know how you feel Gaz I had a similar thing but I think I actually did damage something, and did have alloys.

But i've ended up taking it with a pinch of salt as the chances of getting something from the council is zero
