Posted March 17, 201014 yr ive got my replacement 2.o engine and have stripped it to a bare block, now originally i was going to hone the block and fit new rings and give it a good clean, clean head with a good skim and replace all gaskets, but time is running out and money is tight,so im asking..can i strip the bottom end and clean it and put it back together without replacing anything (engine is a good runner and uses no oil)?
March 17, 201014 yr could you explain how it would be a fucked engine? Because every used Zetec engine i've stripped and measured has had excessive piston to bore clearance and it's never been down to worn rings.
March 17, 201014 yr Author so i should leave it alone then if it didnt use any oil before. just wanted to clean all the oil galleries and piston tops etc.
March 17, 201014 yr Author also stu if every zetec engine you have stripped is fucked you obviously havent binned them all,so what have you done to them? rebore, larger rings etc..?
March 18, 201014 yr Stuff for turbo conversions.. or forged for n/a Ford don't support rebuilding the engines.. so no larger pistons from them.. but you can probably get some oversize AE ones from a dealer... Ford just sell complete bottom ends.. probably the cheaper option compared to new pistons and machining work... I remember getting a complete brand new 1.6 bottom end from Ford for less than £400 many moons ago!! Edited March 18, 201014 yr by Stu

March 18, 201014 yr Most rebuilt/reconditioned engines use AE pistons as they're cheeeeep! Speak to your local engine rebuild firm....
