i bought for the princely sum of £675 this 1995 N reg rover 214SEi in british racing green with T&T, full service history, all original and just 72K on the clock.

wasn't perfect when i got her, so first job was new number plates, then tinted side repeaters, new radio, speakers, steering wheel, sort out the sticking brakes and then found that i'd miss read MOT, thought i had more time but only had bout a week :nutter:

put her through and she sailed through. the guys at nationwide even gave their thumbs up, said was good little car. downside is they did this too it (just couldnt prove it as had taken car away by the time i realised):

this is also why you should not buy halfords axle stands as they bend under the weight of a rover 214 (rated at 2 tonnes)

damage was worse, this is after i used black hammerite to cover up where there was no paint till i could repair it properly, just never bothered

started modding it though:D

i'll let the pics do the talking:

bodge repaired it for the holiday then got the tomcat one as it was all they had at the breakers and i preffered it :D

just quick tech spec:

rover 214sei

1396cc DOHC K16 MPI engine (16v k-series) developing 103bhp

featured:

front elec windows, half leather GSI interior, remote locking, PAS, elec sunroof, 15" alloys (not the ones in pics, i got id of them straight away, used ones left from my brothers 416) bout it :D

i added:

  • centre armrest
  • GMAX shock and springs (lowered 60mm)
  • 220GSI turbo front brakes with uprated discs and pads (cant remember brand)
  • MG 16" hairpin alloys
  • black lexus lights
  • black crystal side repeaters
  • carbon fibre effect dash inserts
  • sony head unit (currenly in my escort)
  • sony speakers in front, pioneers in back
  • alloy pedals
  • option tuning WRX style leather steering wheel with rover badge from original wheel
  • lockwood white dials
  • genuine rover 200 floor mats with alloy plate added
  • M3 mirrors
  • Boss audio tweeters added to blanking plates from wing mirrors
  • front fog lights
  • eye level brake light
  • K&N induction kit (57i)
  • 216GTI twin exit rear silencer
  • debadged boot, then re-done 16V badging
  • foot well neons
  • custom painted rocker cover
  • MG gear knob
  • ecotek valve for vaccum system (actually worked on this, not so good on escort)
  • tomcat front bumper
  • fully synthetic oil to keep tappets lubricated

good fun in this, especially racing past bigger engined cars (including escorts, 1.6 and 1.8)

was actually faster than my escort but the downsides were bone shaking ride, noisey, poor economy, buggered gearbox (1st and 2nd lost synchro) and very sensitive brakes. you always had to rev it as there is no power or torque below 2000 revs on these really.

escort soooo much smoother to drive. i do miss this car and if you thought i had it low on -60, the guy i sold it too (with the lights, induction kit, rocker cover, radio, steering wheel, wheels put back too standard) for £320 showed me what he did to his old one, he lowered it -90 front and -120 rear. then he wondered why it failed MOT (he did nothing else but chop coils) so he wanted a new one to lower ( i would hate to see it now)

i did the bulk of the work (lights, wheels, suspension, brakes, rocker cover, interior, fogs, eye level, exhaust, service) all in the same 2 week period i'm in now and all i've done to the escort is change ICV, steering wheel and rear lights. pathetic

And where has the 4k gone into this one?

You do realise that when you write 3K or 4K the "K" means thousand, not hundred.

:P ive seen worse cars on the go tbh :)

Edited by scottg17

if you can blow 4k and end up with THAT result............. Id suggest you hire an accountant immediatly, cos your either shite at adding up or clueless at how much things cost and halfords see you comeing everytime.

why all be so mean about my spending? i know 4k means 4000. money was spent on buying things, disliking them and changing them. wheels werent cheap. wheels came to £125, then needed tyres which cost me nearly £400 as i bought some good uns :D

some parts are hard to get hold of for these rovers as not many people mod them and they never seemed to be at breakers yards till after i sold it :nutter:

boss kit cost £40 for a second hand one from a honda concerto (same car)

needed new set of dials after i broke the old ones, but the speedo was fine so i kept that to keep the mileage the same.

had to get new boot carpet, new interior as when i got the car there was a nasty fag burn in the passenger seat (dealers son was using it - left me an un-used condom in the coin tray too), dad broke the o/side rear door card when trying to sort out the not working central locking (door locked and unlocked when you used the pin, not with other doors) and one of the rear seat headrest poles snapped (bit in the seat) so couldnt get headrest back in if i took it out.

lexus lights for this were bout £90, side repeaters were £7 for first pair, £15 for second, needed new speedo cable housing in the gearbox as it snapped randomly one day (when i was leaving house early to spend day in bed with my gf:P) and put gearbox oil all over my drive.

bits add up too quickly. add up all the small bits you get from the breakers, the odd £5 here, £10 there, all adds up. that and my local breakers rip people off. wanted £40 for a calliper for a rover 416. just for 1!!!!!!

got it from different breaker for £10.

I spent about £9k on my old GTI........
you REALLLY dont have a clue
what is it with telling people what you have spent? its not a competition...but i bet i have spent more on my cars than you so ner :P

not a competition, but you saying that means i need to spend more on my escort now :P

just saying so people know how much it can cost to do cars :)

the thing is i spent my money tupidly, more so with the first one. by shopping about the majority of stuff i have bought now is half of what i paid before. its not what you spend on it, its what you have to show for it. 4k on that car it should be somwething special, not a ever so slightly diff rover with tax and mot...

a car only costs what your willing to spend - if your foolish enough to pay 4k for what looks like lexus lights and alloys then more fool you

Oh my god,u really do need to wind it in,Your starting to look useless and silly.

You need to start looking at threads regarding gonzo, dutchkev,Lordjc for examples regarding making a 5dr escort look good.Your escort is going the wrong way and sadly i think its all talk no work.

i dont need to know how much u have spent, so are u seeking attention or something?

Oh dear, i know of cars that have been mag featured with less spent :innocent:

That would be lucky to get a picture in auto trader

stevmo, how old are you? is the 3691 (3/6/91 your date of birth? as that would explain your infatuation with telling people what you have spent...
