Posted March 20, 201014 yr This is just insane. As I've been thinking of changing my car, I've been doing a few quotes on various things to see how they compare. Bare in mind, I'm 25, I've had a licence 8 years, 6 years NCD, no endorsements, and live in a low crime area. RS2000 is coming out well over £700 quid a year, which is just sodding stupid. How can it have a high risk factor, no one knows what it bloody is Puma and Fiesta (despite being in different groups) come out within about £20 of each other at £530-550 a year, which is as much as my 250bhp 850 T-5 cost! Yet for an extra £30 a year over the Puma, I could insure an E36 328i or an MR2 GT. Just how do they work these stupid premiums out? Insurance groups seems to bare little relation to anything. They just seem to pluck a figure wildly out of the air, and it usually means that a Ford is a shed-load more expensive to insure than any of it's rivals. I think a serious shake-up of the insurance industry is needed, it's just ridiculous. Rant over
March 20, 201014 yr i know fella, renewal time for me aswell, the figures im coming back with are rediculous! and stoo - before you ask, i cant use chris knotts as they wont insure our lass
March 20, 201014 yr Doesnt seem that awful at 25 for an RS2000, & of course everyone knows what one is lol, the RS badge will help the price along. Volvo will be cheaper purely due to them being renouned as a safety conscious car.My cab is over £450 per year & im far older than you with 5-6 years no claims & one accident from about 3 years ago.
March 21, 201014 yr Just gotta know how to fiddle the insurance a little .. 2 1/2 Hundred on the GTi .. Only a few below the RS .. Feel lucky TBH .. The UK has excellent Insurance compaired to other 1st world countrys.
March 21, 201014 yr For me to insure a volvo 850 t5r its £7000 and thats not a typo, i said seven grand lol. insurance really is a big joke and big scamming device
March 21, 201014 yr im with a company called heritage and i pay 110 a year for my rs2k and that covers me for track days aswell , but i can only do 4000 miles a year. Edited March 21, 201014 yr by wayne 75
March 21, 201014 yr It is shocking the way insurance is worked out. I was looking at a 1.8 lancer and it is cheaper to insure than my Escort based on the fact the Lancer is insurance group 8 and the escort it 10 but the lancer is a more powerful car It maybe down to the fact the escort is easier to steal than the lancer...I don't know. But then If I were to go to the Audi showroom and buy an R8 V10 I'd still pay less insurance than massivewaggers has been quoted on his RS2000.I'm 41, full NCB, licence held for 20 years, no accidents or convictions but live in a medium risk area. When these insurance posts come up, I ALWAYS recommend that you change your insurance company every year as you get better deals as a new customer than a customer who has been with the same company for years.

Id disagree with that last bit tbh. i've been with my insurance company 3 years and they beat any other quote i get from other cheaper quotes from other companies.

March 21, 201014 yr i would never pay that much and also alot of this is dew to the snow we had i pay 545 for my 1.8 escort saloon and i payed 680 for a vectra 2.5 v6 and thats with points
March 21, 201014 yr well im 19, 3 points no yr no claims and in a bad crime area and being in th army doesnt help so thats why i think its so high
March 21, 201014 yr Author I think the problem I have, is that the Zetec-S and the Puma say, are meant to be about group 8 and 12 respectively, and yet there's virtually no difference between the premiums. Surely the 328i is in just as high a group as the RS2000? Yet is about £150 a year less to insure, when it's just as much of a joy riding machine really. The MR2 is just a pretty blinkin dangerous car, yet is much cheaper as well. The RS2000 would cost me almost as much to insure as a 2WD Saph Cosworth, which is just obscene to be honest with you. One of the most stolen cars in history, in group 20, 200bhp, RWD, and barely any more than a 150bhp FWD Escort that no one even cares about anymore. It's just all very suspect I think. Was getting quotes on Mondeo's recently as well, MK3s, and a 2.0 Ghia X would cost as much to insure as my T-5 did, and a 2.5 Zetec-S/Ghia X would cost more than the RS2000. I'd love to see the sums they use to come up with these numbers!
