Porsche 944 Turbo (Heavy Mods 13k spent on new rebuilt engine Dynoed at 350 BHP, Still owned) I love this car, the driving experience is simply awesome. I would recommend any 944 to anyone as if you look carefully you can buy a real bargain for very little money. I paid 5000 pound for this one with FSH and 68k on the clock which was cheap it´s a Mk1 Turbo which had 220 BHP originally the Mk 2´s are 250 but there isn´t a lot of difference between the two and all parts are available to bolt on.

I spent a lot on the engine and brakes because I will never sell it, It´s my own little bit of freedom :-) when we moved to Spain I drove it down from Yorkshire and took a day out on my own around the Pyrenees foothills, pure simple joy!

Escort GTi Estate, bought as second owner in 2004 and still going strong. I could afford something more expensive and up to date but have truly come to love this car because it never lets me down and is totally a member of the family.

Have spent a fair bit on cosmetic repairs and upgrades, it is now totally colour coded and debadged and am just starting to modify the interior to give it almost every option. I was seriously tempted by a 2006 Mondy Estate TDCi Ghia X last month but managed to keep my head on straight and stayed with the scort :-) After 6 years it owes me nowt and I can´t bear to let it go.

More pics edited in when I find them.

Thanks for looking.

Nice Porsche.

Thanks :-)

The guy that did most of the work on mine has/had a 450 BHP 944, he took me out in it and it was totally mental :-)

Part of the fun of owning it is that most people are totally ignorant about how good the 944 Turbo is especially when modified and think they can easily leave a 25 year old car for dust, needless to say most of them are very surprised especially when they are driving cars that cost many tens of thousands more :pancake: :pancake: :pancake:

do you never think with what you've spent on it you could have a 993 or something with the looks to match the go?? I apreciate it is a very very clean car.

how come your 120y only lasted 4 days?

i can imagine how gutted you were going from a 320 to an orion :(

interesting collection if not very many!

I´m not particularly a 911 fan, If you have ever driven one you will know what I mean, very dissapointing Still a motoring Icon though and I wouldn´t say no to a late 80´s Turbo in guards red with full whale tail :-)

I always loved the 944, I was a young teenager when it first came out and never thought I´d be able to get one, It was either a 944 or a BMW 635CSi and I found the 944 first.

Besides the 944 is VERY under rated, Tiff Needell (Who used to race them as one of the Porsche works drivers) says it´s still one of his all time favorite cars to drive.

My ultimate Porsche is the 928GTS (The last and best of the mighty V8´s) over 100000 K pounds to buy as new and you can pick mint FSH ones up for about 13k now

The 120Y was a deathtrap, took it back to the guy who sold me it and got my money back.

And yep the 3 series back to the Orion was a pretty big blow to my self esteem :-) I have grown out of that now though and really enjoy the escort estate.

I tend to keep cars for a long time because I work equal time rotation in the oil industry and the cars don´t get driven for half the year, I was looking back at the service history for the estate, I bought it in 2004 and have only done 19000 miles in it since then, 10% of that was driving it down here to Spain :-)

excellent porsche you have there, i had a guards red non-turbo and even without the turbo i loved the car it just crippled me on insurance so had to go. years back i had a 924 in the same colour as yours and that was just a pile of bolts, i liked it but disliked it at the same time and eventually swapped it for an escort estate. if i could afford the insurance i would have another 944 tomorrow :)

Insurance on the 944 was less than 200 per year when I left the UK, Second car on classic car insurance, very cheap way to insure cars. I drove it here in Spain until the insurance and MOT ran out and it´s been in storage since as I have to get it re regged and it´s not really that cheap to do. I have a lot of other things with higher priority first.

a 924 is an absolute bargain of a car, they are fully galvanised so should be solid, The quality of the materials, paint and build means that they clean up very well simple to work on with lots of very cheap bolt on Porsche upgrades and start with around 125 BHP to play with, might not sound like much but remember this is a rear wheel drive car with almost perfect weight distribution (Gearbox is a transaxle), they are VERY popular as track day cars. Can be picked up for around 300 quid now for an average one. Top spec models go up to over 350 BHP but the average 924S is around 150 to 160 BHP

Anyone who says "Poor mans Porsche" when talking about 924´s has absolutley no idea what they are talking about :-)

My old mans had a 944 turbo since I was about 4 years old, he bought it and it was a couple of years old at the time. He's still got it now, and its such a nice car, immaculate inside and out, and I always remember it being stupidly fast! They are truly excellent cars, like you said almost underated though. You should look into getting some Porsche design 90's wheels for yours, theyll look perfect on it.
