Amazing, this guy bought an old BMW off of craigslist for $500 and made his own roll cage to FIA spec and entered it into a FIA sanctioned rally against Solberg, Loeb and co.

He finished 3rd :pancake:

and you thought your 1.8 Si wouldnt be competative? :pancake:

pah look out block - im next for the WRC title
I don't know what's more impressive, that or reid showing up! lol
If its a fake its a good one, but just dont really believe any of it!
mate have a read, check the results... watch the videos, its clearly real

Saying the car is $500 worth is a bit misleading, though, unless E30 M3 engines have come down in price quite dramatically!

He's a total hero though :)

well the car probably was £500s worth although not when he'd spent a few weeks fiddling
I believe he finished 2nd from last, several hours behind Loeb?!
"Third in class" could have been anywhere. Good effort though, and some proper balls to even do it in the first place!

As if an old RWD car is really going to give not only the main WRC cars competition, but also the WRC drivers
i read the bit about 3rd in class, wonder how many there was in the class originally, not very many i'd imagine. Never the less good bit of publicity for the guy, its a good story if you don't get into the finer details.

given the set backs the guy had suffered, I think finishing the equivalent of 23 of 25 in the wrc is pretty good!

read the whole thing the guy is a hero
