because i had one, and remember seeing a few others about at the time

 

was it just a dealer special edition or something, I brought it nearly new from the main dealer and they had about 10 of them, all of the dark colour ones were badged "GTI" (which was exactly the same badge as the Golf GTI aniversary) whilst the light colour cars were badged "Caberet"

 

it was pretty much bog standard LX apart from white dials and XR3i 14" Star wheels

yes, dealers badged alot of lower specs as gti's just to shift them on mate... im sure it was somwhere in oxford or london i think
