Posted April 13, 201014 yr basically iv been a bit of a lazy bugger since my opp. im all healed and have been for a while but after dropping a stone iv put it back on and cant get down from 14ish stone. iv already dropped my food intake and am eating the same portions as my girlfriend. basically having grapes for breakfast, two small home made hamm and salad wraps with a bag of carrot sticks an apple and a activia yoghurt for dinner and a small (prob average for most) tea usually one meat with veg and rice or pasta etc. no snacking. now il be at the gym as soon as my dad decides which one he wants to join (he wants an old fashioned sweat gym) so i can have a training partner pluss a bit of a coach as he used to bodybuild. what im also thinking of doing tho is joining a "fight club". 5mins walk from the mrs house is a place called fighting fit. they do UFC, boxing and wrestling training as well as self defence with some martial arts chucked in. im basically thinking of using this to help me tone and gain cardio on 2 days a week with 3 days at teh gym with 2 rest days. im thinking of getting into some caveman style training but also with the wrestling and boxing things chucked in. whats your opinions? anyone ever done it? did it help? personally im expecting it to help alot as lugging 14stone around on a 5foot 8inch frame thats turning from fat to muscle (i know it doesnt actiually change) isnt great. id like to maybe keep most of the weight but tone up. before my accident 32inch jeans used to slide down my arse, now i can only just get into 34inch if i undo the button when i sit down (i refuse to buy 36"!!!!) so all in, any experiences and what ya reckon? obviously my diet will change to suit the training im doing this is just an attempt (which a week of so far has done bob all! i might as well carry on eating like a horse) has done nothing too. doing no exercise doesnt help tho. i felt embarressed having a kick around in teh park with the mrs lad as i was out of breath in no time (untill i got used to it then wasnt to bad) then pulled ableeding muscle in my quad! lol Edited April 13, 201014 yr by KNITERIDER
April 13, 201014 yr I'm not sure it's an amazing idea to take up fighting after having operations on your head. Buy a skipping rope if you want a good work out!
April 13, 201014 yr Author I'm not sure it's an amazing idea to take up fighting after having operations on your head. Buy a skipping rope if you want a good work out! iv been told i can do whatever i want with my head as the damage is only tissue and other than a bit of muscle my heads still ok. its more the training im interested in tho than having fights. so id be doing the hitting (bags pads) rather than being hit and other things such as cardio workouts. if left to my own devices id do no exercise but by joining something i tend to stick at it
April 13, 201014 yr Boxing training is supposed to be excellent for losing weight, putting on muscle and stamina as well. I'm starting one next weekend actually.

Might put it off for a couple of weeks though, been slacking on the weight training for a couple of weeks so want to get back into that first before taking anything else on!

Personally can only speak for boxing, but i'm sure Aaron or any of my friend would back me up on this, when I joined 3 or so years ago I was a 15 year old typical "Fat Pudding" and now... i'm not and martial arts tones you up a HELL of alot! Especially MMA and the likes, boxing gives you amazing lats so all in, any experiences and what ya reckon? obviously my diet will change to suit the training im doing this is just an attempt (which a week of so far has done bob all! i might as well carry on eating like a horse) has done nothing too. doing no exercise doesnt help tho. i felt embarressed having a kick around in teh park with the mrs lad as i was out of breath in no time (untill i got used to it then wasnt to bad) then pulled ableeding muscle in my quad! lolAll in all - Go for it, you won't regret it, but as soon as you go for your 1st session TELL THE COACH/INSTRUCTOR YOUR GOALS! Tell him if you do or don't want to fight or spar, tell him if you want to train hard, tell him if you want to train with the fighters with cardio etc. Edited April 13, 201014 yr by LiamGTR

BUT i dont know how much my injuries (mainly my head) will put a stopper to this so im going witht he intentons of getting fit and see what happens. as i put, il be upping my diet to what im doing, im just getting myself back on a healthyish diet to start with so its less of a shock and you never know it may give me a headstart when i start training also as my body will have had a sort of detox from eating crap!

I know what you mean and you want to train really hard and get fit and lose some weight, but for the 1st few weeks honest you won't do much your body will be adapting... it sounds stupid... but people don't understand how physically demanding it is punching a punch bag (with proper technique... moving in and out, throwing correct punches etc.) for 3/4/5+ rounds and then doing more cardio/weights after that!! Basically just give youself time mate don't rush into it, 1 injury and your out of martial arts for atleast a month.... Edited April 13, 201014 yr by LiamGTR
April 13, 201014 yr ive been a member of a Boxing club for years and used to go regularly, since my knee injury i havent been in a while but once ive had my surgery il definately be going back. its great for getting rid of agression and frustration too. Myself and the girlfriend are moving into a new house toward the end of the year which has a garage so the first thing that will be going in there is a punch and speed ballalso skipping is great which someone has already mentioned. If your self motivated your own punch bag and skipping rope at home will do the trick, the added benefit of going to a Club however is the Circuit training and other equipment on offer.
April 13, 201014 yr And the banter! You will make some quality mates if you're a regular. As well as venting a lot of anger, martial arts help you learn a lot of self control, I never have been an "angry kid" and never once had a street fight...ever! But since i've actually been old and tough enough to fend for myself there has been loads of times that boxing has learnt me to actually walk away instead of punching the kids head in (especially with working in a Nightclub... aparently I only give change for £5 notes when people magically give me £20... hhmmm)

So I'll report back if I don't have a heart attack.
April 14, 201014 yr Author i popped in last night for a word, was downheartned with the price untill he carried on now i cant wait basically if i want to do mma (i think he called it) basicaly ufc training they do 3 2hour sessions a week. one for floor work like grappling etc one for fighting and one for martial arts. they also do a hardcore session on a friday that is all cardio and you get pushed to the edge with alot of people chucking up outside apparently lol il do this when iv got a bit of fitness back tho and no before! now it was originally £5 an hour...so thats £30 a week...£120 a month!!!!! but if i pay cash per month its £50 a month or direct debit and its £40 a month! so basically 24hours of training a month for £40, they have 2 ufc fighters who train and one ju jitsu (sp) champion to do the martial arts as well. cant wait till pay day also i need to get a licence through them, either £12 for a non fighters licence or £15 for a fighters licence (if i want to take part in tornements) he said might as well get the extra for £3 if i ever wanted to fight pluss if i got the cheaper then wanted to fight id have to buy another licence for £15.
April 14, 201014 yr That's probably the only benefit of just boxing, the price! Usual clubs only charge £2 a session and no registering or monthly fees or licences or anything, BUT then you only get 1 martial art to master
