If anyone is interested, I have one Escort DIY fault code reader left for sale.

 

The reader plugs into the 16 pin diagnostic found in the passenger footwell found in cars built from 1995-2000. It works with any PC with a free USB port, and the software supports Windows XP, Vista (32 or 64), and Windows 7 (32 or 64).

 

It will:

 

• Read stored diagnostic trouble codes.
  
• Clear stored diagnostic trouble codes.
  
• Reset the keep alive memory.
  
• Run key on engine off diagnostics (tests for missing or out of range sensors)
  
• Run key on engine running diagnostics (performs dynamic engine tests)
  

 

Note that this is not an OBD-II fault code reader - it is a custom built Ford OBD-I DCL reader.

 

The reader will also work with the 1993-1997 Mondeos, so can help if you are having problems after a 2L silver top conversion.
