Well its been just over a year since i brought my escort and joined here in a panic about the past mot's.

But clearly i did not learn, and have budged up again.

I brought a transit in a bit of a rush, and having now looked up the mot advisory sheet online, i am worried.

Of course, the advisory sheet was missing when i viewed the van... and i did not look until i brought the van home. Because I am stupid.

Under the advisories for the last mot which was carried out in 27/10/2009 it has:

Advisory Notice issued

Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2a)

Offside Rear Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.D.1)

N/s wing mirror damaged

O/s outer sill damaged

N/s outer sill advanced corrosion

N/s & o/s front shock absorbers have a slight misting of oil

Rear cross member advanced corrosion and damaged

Now, i was surprised by the corrosion issues.

Firstly because the age of the van (2000), the milage (59,000) but also by the fact the arches are very clean and have not been fillered!

So, do i shift the van now before i pay out for insurance on it and have to re-mot it, or is the work not as scary as i think?

Problem is this van cost me every penny of my money...

As said, its a w 2000 plate, 59,000 miles, mot till Ocotober 2010, tax till August, short wheel base medium top, reasonably clean for a van, power steering elecy windows and mirrors, all boarded out and a decent job, tow bar with electrics and security locks all round. I paid £2000 for it. Did i get mugged off, would i get the money back again?

Thanks evo, you know i prefer you lot to the other forums =]

Also i dont understand how the last owner paid for a service in enfield, which appeared to be on the same day as the mot in colchester (some 60 miles away?)

a bit of welding get some quotes, don't know about the value of vans but that does sound steep, although without pictures and what engines in it it'd be a guess anyway

Bit of welding may be needed next MOT, or it may just get advised on again. Does it still have that nearly bald tyre?

Mirror and sill damage will remain advisories unless the damage gets worse

Nothing I wouldn't expect of a 10 year old van, you should of seen the mirror, tyre and outer sills when you bought it. Get at the corrosion that is mentioned and treat the areas with rust converter and repaint, if you do this now you hopefully won't see it on next MOT :)

And I reckon they drove it the 60 miles between the two :thumb:

We've moved this topic into the correct section.
my car was mot'd 25 miles away= 50mile round trip, good luck with it, do feel for ya!
