Posted April 19, 201014 yr Gonna have to drill out my hubs to allow the different caliper to fit but not to sure what drill bit to use. Is it easy to drill through metal??
April 19, 201014 yr very easy matey all you need to do is lock the steering dead centre so that is prevents the hubs moving whilst drilling!! and get a nice new decent drill bit for the job. i got myself a bosch titanium one! and still using it as it hasn't lost any sharpness!! its best to use a drill that has a level bubble on it. as that would help aid you to get the holes nice and straight but basically any power drill will do cordless ones are ok but basic ones will loose energy fast so a corded power drill will help to provide all the drilling power you need. with that drill it will take you 10mins to do all four holes!!
April 19, 201014 yr good idea about drill with level , just blue tack a small spirt level onto the top of the drill lol
June 14, 201014 yr only a good idea if the car is jacked up level at the time.... I used a proper machine drill ie a stand up thingy you move the handle on.. Use a good good 12 mm drill bit it will make all the difference!!! mine was a bugger and lubed it well as they are cast. Mind you not as bad as getting all the bearings out tonight!
June 14, 201014 yr use cutting paste to stop the drill bit heating up as that will harden the steel making it harder to drill through..sold at most engineering supply shops for a few quid, leaves a cleaner hole as well.
June 14, 201014 yr what drill bits you lot using, toffee bits? Drilling through the hub is easy, 30 seconds to a minute max per hole and i did that with half blunt bit.
