hey chaps and chapesses :)

wondering if you can answer a question i have....

the haynes manual gives me the gapping for the spark plugs, but what really want to know is, does the gap differ per different make of spark plug or do i gap all plugs that are specified to fit, to the same gapping size. i currently have the option of 2 different sets of plugs for my escort... the ones in it currently are NGK plugs but my older escort that i am getting rid of has (champion ? i think) platinum plugs in it

both are 1.6 Zetec blocks the old one is an M reg 1.6 LX Zetec the new one is W Reg 1.6 Finesse Zetec-E, i presume its the zetec-E as the intake pipe is and associated parts that it connects to are totally different, old 1.6 went over the main rocker cover, the new one goes to the right of the engine.

yes it is a zetec-e

i would recomend twin spark platinums

but is the gap relative to the spark plug make or is the gap a universal one ? :)

dunno

ive just put them in straight from the box and it runs sweet as a nut

the only time i ever gapped plugs was in me old cortina

you do more harm than good cleaning / gapping modern platinum plugs
They should come pre-gapped, but install as per the instructions.
