right, my friends car has just lost all power, its acceleration is mentally slow, even when pedal is flat to the floor in low gears, struggles to accelerate, gains about 10mph a minute after 40 mph. he replaced the spark plugs, ht leads, air filter and is going to change oil and filter. but why has it suddenly lost all power? opinions appreciated , cheers
blocked cat?
it might help a little if you post details of what car it is etc as different cars suffer from different defects
Agreed could be anything depending on vehicle

When you say "Just lost all power"

was it a gradual decline or suddenly no power...

If suddenly what was he doing before it lost power so badly ?

did he miss a gear or thrash tits off it or was he driving steadilly ?

i had the same problem and it was a blocked cat, took us ages to work it out, tried everything first! :nutter:

yep i have come accross this many times, its a simple case of disconnect the exhaust from the engine, between the engine and the cat so maybe at the manifold, then run the car and see if it revs up as it should. definately worth a try before paying out for parts as blocked cats are a common thing these days
