Proof that the world is full of idiots.

What?

Only reason I can think is that the bidder needs the top up NOW and has no money in his bank account, and can't be bothered to wait the 5+ days it takes for PayPal to put money in his/her bank so wants to pay on eBay using PayPal (instantly).

Pretty much what Liam said, i should have explained myselfe a bit more.

Say the person needs to top up but has no money in there bank but have money in there paypal account, they may pay over the odds so they can top up now, if you get me.

He has upped his bid more than £17. He really wants it!

Also paypal charge a fee to withdraw your money, so if even if you have to pay a bit more for something you can still be better off than getting it paid back out to your bank account.

If its under £50 you get charged.

I've never transferred more than £50 from my PayPal to my bank at any one time and I have never been charged.
I've just looked this up and you're right - standard transfers are free - I guess I'm out of date
