Posted June 10, 201014 yr I have a donor car with remote central locking that I wanted to fit to my car.As I had different locks on mine I swapped the locks, ecu and transponder from the donor car to mine.I have also changed the central locking module, fitted the loom to reciever and the reciever but it doesn't work in my car.I have put new batteries in the key, checked every fuse with multimeter and checked fuse box numbers and they are both the same. Are there any other parts I need to swap over?I was unable to test in the donor car so not sure if any parts are faulty. Is there any tests I can do? Any help on this would be appreciated.
June 10, 201014 yr you reprogrammed the keys? Theres a guide in the how to section - they might need coding to the car.

What I mean is the RCL module may forget it's keys if it's disconnected from the car, and need recoding.

June 11, 201014 yr Author Thanks for that.I have fitted all those parts but looks like I wont be able to do it as I dont have the red key.
June 12, 201014 yr Thanks for that.I have fitted all those parts but looks like I wont be able to do it as I dont have the red key. I don't believe the code will be lost when the battery or components are disconnected? I've disconnected such components when fitting after market car alarms and when replacing car batteries and the code has never been lost on reconnection. I have only used the red master key to add new ignition keys. The red master key is required for reprogramming new keys and erasing lost keys. If the key or keyfob you are using matches the Ecu and central locking module, it should not need to be reprogrammed? The interior light module contains the infra red receiver for remote locking system. The central locking module cant receive the signal from the key or keyfob if this is not installed or connected. I'm sure you're already aware; with infra red locking, the key/keyfob has to be more or less in line of sight with the infra red receiver. If all these component were operating how they should prior to swapping into your vehicle, I believe you may have failed to connect something or maybe the a plug which powers the remote locking may not be live, especially as your vehicle's loom has the plugs and connections for relative components but did not have remote locking initially. Check the fuse box, I believe there is fuse for the central locking located in the relay area.
June 12, 201014 yr Author All the parts I have fitted are untested.I have changed all the locks, ecu & transponder and car starts with key. Then fitted remote central locking module and reciever.Car still starts and will lock/unlock with key in the lock.I have fitted new batteries to the key, have checked every fuse in the box including the fuse by the relays. I have plugged the loom into the fuse box and checked the 3 wires in the loom with a multimeter.1 wire is an earth and the other 2 are the signal wires. The 2 signal wires are reading 5 volts constant.

This could be completely wrong, but I'm sure you need 4 wires for the electric sunroof loom? I remember something about needing 4 wires into the fusebox and not 3...
June 12, 201014 yr Author Im not running electric sunroof. The loom I got goes from the reciever (interior light) to the fuse box and has 3 wires.
June 13, 201014 yr I wasn't contradicting you? You seem very thorough with your installation and the testing of the wires. I'm unsure as to what the signal wires should be reading when on active or on standby but I'm pretty certain the code hasn't been lost when unplugged or disconnected. As for using the Red Master Key, its my understanding it is only required to program new keys, as the code is contained in the transponder/key/Keyfob and the vehicle's Ecu/Alarm/CDL module learns the new code. There is a device available which will test whether the infra red signal from the Key/Keyfob is being transmitted. Alternatively, view the LED of the remote Key/Keyfob using a digital camera or mobile phone camera. There should be a light coming out of the LED when the button is pressed. (Never tried this myself though)
June 13, 201014 yr Here you go: http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/in...showtopic=59497you need the red key to program the keys to the ecu or the remote locking interface as in MY guide . why didnt you keep the original pats ecu, locks etc and just swap the key blades etc or did you not have a red key with how it was originally in your car ?
June 13, 201014 yr Author I swapped the locks because on my car the drivers door lock was different to the rest. I swapped all the locks with the ecu and transponder so I wouldn't have to mess about with the chip in the key. I didn't have the red key for either of the cars. When you press the button on the key you can see the infra red bit light up and if you hold the button down the red led lights up so im guessing the key is working correctly. Can a new red key be purchsed from Ford?Im guessing if you can it's going to be expensive.

Can a new red key be purchsed from Ford?Im guessing if you can it's going to be expensive. I'm unsure whether Ford will be able to supply a the Master Key, as I believe Ford stopped using Master Keys around 2001, I could be wrong? I require the Master Key for my car, I never contacted Ford as I too believed would be expensive. An independent Keyfob company on ebay said they could provide a Master key for £100 or copy my existing transponder for £60. With full lock sets on ebay complete with Ecu and Master Key at £40-£60, ebay seemed the better option. Its my understanding that the red light which illuminates on the key fob is to confirm battery strength only, thus dim light = new battery. I don't believe the infra red signal is transmitted from the red LED. Most, if not all infra red transmitters are clear and when transmitting the illumination can not be seen by the human eye. If you have a remote TV or sound system at home which has a light that illuminates when the remote control is operated, the light will also illuminate when the the vehicle key fob is operated within range. This will kind of prove if a infra red signal is being transmitted from the vehicle keyfob. As you have checked all fuses and connection, its best to confirm an infra red signal is actually being transmitted.
