what is the chassis it sits on/ underpinnings of the car? for example our escort here was built on the Mazda B Platform.

i'm sure all the american escort bodies are different from them in UK ...but sure someone will know more.....welcome btw

In 1991, the Escort and the Mercury Tracer were replaced by models based on the Mazda B platform, which was also used by the Mazda 323 and Protege. Ford, which owned a 25% stake in Mazda, already sold a version of the 323 in Asia and Australasia, called the Ford Laser, which replaced the old rear-wheel drive Escort there.

 

The Escort a decade earlier used localized engines. The Escort for the 1990s, however, would be almost identical worldwide, differing only in appearance.

i saw that too, but i also noticed that our gt escorts have a very simialr body layout to the cosworths i've seen, also i noticed that the cosworth setup has a carage for the rear diff and suspension. i guess it's more of a hope and dream then anything as it will cost me $15,000 to get a cosworth over here and it just isn't worth that much money seeing as i have a V8 Mustang with at supercharger. It just would have been fun to have something different and to see the look on peoples faces when an awd escort just kicked the crap out of them, they don't have a good rep here at all.

None of the US Escort platforms resemble the European stuff. The Escort Cosworth is a unique platform, bastardised from the Sierra platform (think Merkur XR4ti, but 4wd, and with a shoter wheelbase).

 

The only thing we share across the pond, somewhat, is the Zetec engine - but you got some weird versions of it in the Escort for emissions reasons (the Zetec with VVT on the exhaust cam, for example).

there are no better bits on the mark 5 uk escort. Wouldn't be seen dead driving a lada with mark 5 escort seats or whatever. To make a us escort better you're probably better trying to make mustang parts fit, or taurus bits
