Posted June 14, 201014 yr As per title - would a kind soul be able to lend me their original installation disc of Windows Vista Home Premium (32bit) - my laptop (Sony Vaoi) needs its O/S reinstalling but since everything came preinstalled I need the original disc - I have an original Product key - just need the disc - I would of course pay for postage (Recorded naturally) both to me and back to you. Cheers
June 14, 201014 yr Author Reluctant to download in case it is riddled with viruses etc - thats why im (hopefully) reinstalling! Caled - not wiped it yet - wanting a backup just in case it all goes wrong when I give all the things i have been advised to do first!
June 14, 201014 yr I was referring to your recovery partition, not your active windows partition. Most laptops nowadays, Vaios included, have partitions that are not normally accessible to users, except by pressing and holding a button at startup (F11 I think for Vaios). Holding this button will bring up a recovery menu, loaded from the recovery partition NOT from the normal windows partition, and one of the options on the menu list will be for a complete reinstallation back to factory defaults, wiping all your data (and most likely any malware) in the process. In essence, it is copying an image of the windows installation from the recovery partition over onto the main partition. This saves the manufacturer producing millions of installation CDs.
June 15, 201014 yr Author That evens make sense to a goon like me! So I can do that and not need a dick then? Perfect!
June 15, 201014 yr Hehe. Legendary typo. But yes, you should be able to use the recovery partition to reinstall Vista. What model Vaio is it?
June 15, 201014 yr Author Not long back from an eye operation - lol everythings still blurry! Its a Sony Vaio Model : PCG 7V1M and on the back it says VAIO VGN FE41S. Running Windows Vista Home Premium.(32bit)
June 15, 201014 yr ok, try holding down F10 when the Sony logo pops up just after you start your computer, that should take you into the recovery centre.
June 17, 201014 yr Author Cheers for that - hopefully will get a chance to do that on my next day off - will let you know how it goes.
