poormansporsche
alright peeps, Fitted Front fogs to my Mk5 with the aftermarket Ring RLFK200 relay kit and it works fine, wired up fine but really want to get rid of the crappy switch that comes with it and use the Ford Front fog switch. So the Ring switch has 3 wires, 1 Earth, 1 wire which goes to the Cars lighting Circuit and 1 wire which goes to the ring relay and tells the relay to switch the fogs on. whilst the ford switch has 5 terminals, ive looked in the haynes and cant fathom what terminal is what as it doesnt say pin positions only what colour wires (which obviously i havent got) So does anyone know:1, which pin is what in the ford switch2 how i can get the 3 wires into 5 wires (i know one is illumination so not too worried about that!) cheers Brett

Unfortunetly I cant be 100% sure as it was a fair while ago when I did it and tbh Ive found colour coding in escorts can sometimes be random as feck and confusing even on the same models) basic theory is you Identify which of the incoming terminals are the 12v live in and which is the 12v live out then splice a 12v LED somewhere into the circuit (to replace the ford job)and then youve essentially converted the more complicated Ford Oem switch into a more simplified simple 2 pole "push to close" latching switch..... least thats how I recall doing it. poormansporsche
cheers mate, sorted now managed to grab a random passer-by off the street in a xr3i cabby and asked to take his foglight switch out and have a butch and amazingly he was happy to oblige (although obviously a little taken aback !) - thanks dave from Bromley !!! so luckily the wires he had in his car matched up to the colours in the haynes so this allowed me to identify which pin did what in the ford switch. This gave me the info i needed to knock up a 3 wire to 5 wire loom. So what i did was: Used the illumination wire from the heated screen switch and spliced 3 ways - 1 wire back to the screen switch, 1 wire to the illumination pin on the foglight switch and 1 wire to the "power in" pin on the foglight switchsecondly plugged the wire from the Ring Relay into the power out pin on the switch. Then spliced this lead back into the switch to power the foglights on led. Then just run 1 earth lead from the last pin to the bulkhead. Managed to do all this out of the car and was really surprised that it worked first time with no modification as i have absolutely no clue about wiring It looks a complete mess but its all behind the panel and for the first time in 6 months since i put the fogs on they are actually working and feeling pretty chuffed !!! Any chance you remember the wire colours as just bought the same kit
