Jordan99940
there are some serious silly speeds here i feel so inadequate. on my way to ford fair (on a private road) i hit 120 in my 'scort then eased off a bit

spanner
ah lads it is easy doing 100+ on big wide roads try doing it on back roads with grass in the middle and the hedges scraping the mirrors or better again in the woods...... haven't a clue what the top speed would be BUT i have been a passenger is a WRC Corolla and a S12 Sub both flat in top gear. a 2L pinto flat in 5th. a EVO 6 Flat in top gear while fish tailing "scary". and flat in my own car on both tar and woods. and let me see a Micra, 1.6 MKII. 1.6 Twin cam and a few other yokes and when i say flat i mean on the limiter... I totally aggree, rally drivers are insane and i think the bravest of the motorsport divers (im sure there are many other opinions). You see them caining through the woods at stupid speeds then hooning the tail out around a corner before hooning it out the other way whilst the exhaust goes 'pap pap bang pap' Not just in the wood either, on cliff roads with massive drops. I think their amazing and the trust they have in their co-driver and vehicle is also quality. When I was a couple years younger I saw how fast my 1.6 zetec will go a couple of times on the m5 mostly when there had been no one on it, clocked 120 on my clocks on a straight, was pretty solid. Thats probably only about 114 if I was to use a SAT NAV to do it. I wish I had an air strip to hoon it around and see really how fast it would go but I dont, I havnt tried to top it out for a long time now, i find the thrill from getting up to speed as quickly as possible on a slip road alot of fun. And im not joking when i say this but many will think i am, the police pulled me over after apparently following me doing 100mph and gave me a verbal warning, i was on my way home from suffolk, it was 2am in the morning on the m5 and i was just booning down the inside lane at the end of 4 hour journey. I havnt gone near 100 since, i love driving too much but i cant honestly say I haven't being irrisponsible behind the wheel before. This clearly puts me in the idiot group going on previous posts. RobMk6
what have you done to get that speed out a st170???i have done 140 in my focus st170 it had Cams, chip and custom built exhaust with decat..... then the usual filters etc, but was quicker than any 170 i've been in, kept up with quite a few STs
TheKeymeister
Coming home to see my mate on Deal or no deal (obviously I was somewhere in Germany at the time), I had an indicated (and 100% definitely completely inaccurate) 130 indicated out of my 1.4 Mk6 escort....downhill with the wind behind me....have got a pic of it at 125 but it carried on going after..... So 130 indicated, thats an actual...90? And for all the people getting funny about it, yes I was young and stupid, and no I'm not that daft any more. Thing is, most cars on Evo wouldn't reach their top speed on a runway, nowhere near long enough. In the time it takes a 1.6 escort to get from 105-110 it will have covered hundreds of metres, so the time it takes to get from 0 to its max speed of (lets say 120) it will have covered miles, no runway is that long. (and factor in crappy brakes and i doubt you'd see 100 safely...)
