You sound a half clued up fella, and please dont talk to me about fuel trims because ive lived and breathed it, for a living for the last 14 years. So im not playing punch and judy with you :)

FYI - "160hp for a Zetec", assuming thats a 2000cc then 38mm is still too wide. Of course, you know this :thumb:

The OP wants a cheap conversion, bike carbs are cheap and give huge grins, and thats what its all about on a budget owning a ford escort.

I thought it was 20 years in one of your other posts ;)

Anyway, it's not a competition. This is a forum and it's full of opinions. Some of which are backed up with experience (of which the results of are often misunderstood). I'm not into willy-waving, I just give out my opinion. If somone wishes to argue my opinion, I invite them to, however I prefer them to produce a factual argument rather than justifying their comment by how long they've been doing a job (I know people who have done their job for 40 years and still don't know what they're doing!!). This isn't related at you TJ, just a general statement for anyone. I am however interested in discussing any topic at length for the purpose of knowledge & experience sharing, learning, and hopefully educating others.

With regards to the 38mm comment, what's displacement got to do with it? ;) 38mm is too wide for a 1.6 zetec at 160bhp, let alone a 2.0 (assuming the 1.6 can spin fast enough to flow that amount of air). A friend of mine produced approx. 210bhp on a 1.6 puma engine with IIRC 38mm butterflies back when he worked in motorsport. It makes me laugh when you get companies offering 40mm, or even 45mm kits for standard engines! When you map these you get to about half throttle, if that, any anything past that simply isn't flowing any additional air!

The 14 years was when decided to work for myself, as opposed to the other working for Renault at the time. To be honest, I dont need to explain myself in that respect because for one, I dont feel I actually need to, and two, I dont want to :)

I cant help myself in wanting to help people sometimes and I have to refrain as I dont get much time on the internet, but what spoils the experience, is cars, men, forums and google search are breeding grounds for know it alls and "specialists"

Cheers

Well, if you want to come onto a forum and voice an opinion, and use your experience as some kind of validation to your comments, then you may be asked to justify it otherwise it's potentially just words. This is called debate and discussion :)

As I said, i'm more than happy to discuss things in length. I'm not interested in how long you've worked, or where you've worked - what's more relevant is factual discussion, in detail, and most importantly - the results!!

Anyway, let's not taint this thread with willy-waving. It should be about factual discussion relevant to the posters issue and it's rapidly going off-topic.

So, what your saying is, to voice an opinion that differs or causes an iota of conflict with yours, forum users, mainly newbies have to post there qualifications to have a valid opinion, if its not indeed a fact thats being posted.

I can voice my opinion here for what its worth. You, sir are a know it all. Who, judging by your posts count, lives on forums and hates to be challenged by anyone who may no a little about car mechanics and/or engineering, especially a newbie.

No, that isn't what i'm saying at all. I'll try and make it clearer for you. I enjoy discussing topics with people. I enjoy discussing things in depth. I don't really know how else I can word it. All I ask in any debate is that facts are put on the table. I don't see how asking for someone to back up what they say (whoever they are) makes me a 'know it all'. I think it makes me someone who wishes to learn from someone elses factual experiences. You don't learn from opinion, you learn from testing and results. If you have some results to share with us then that'd be great - that is afterall what forums are for, discussing and sharing.

Every post you've made so far has some kind of derogatory comment in it, rather than something constructive to the thread or contributing other peoples knowledge. I'm not really sure why you have a chip on your shoulder, but it's not really my issue or anyone else's to deal with but your own. Perhaps you're used to joining a forum and not being questioned - well i'm afraid that's not going to be the case here. It seems you have issues with some people on forums, notably those with higher post counts, or for those with opinions.

I've been on this website for a long time and have offered my knowledge and experience to others. I try and be helpful where I can and often challenge statements made by others to further my own knowledge and help others increase theirs. Perhaps you could change your approach from randomly insulting members to actually contributing with something factual. It has nothing to do with you being new to the site. I expect to be treated the same when I join a website as to how I do if i've been on it for a decade. I expect you do too, but perhaps your experiences haven't been so which is why you appear to have issues.

This thread is rapidly turning into a Jerry Springer session when really the conversation should be around bike carbs. If you have a personal grevience with me then please get in touch and air your issues.
