EscortNreg
Do they usually clay it first?
Stu
A bodyshop typically wouldn't.
EscortNreg
I'm having my car done on Wednesday, everywhere I called said they clayed before using the compound... I thought it a bit strange. Are there any benefits to it?

Stu
Why do you want it mopped anyway? It's not something you want to be doing too often!
Trig
Are you having it mopped by a body shop or polished by a detailer? There will be 2 wildly different results depending on what you are having done.
EscortNreg
The full process is: WashClayHard compoundSoft compoundPolish and wax It's the first time the car is having it, the swirls are quite bad and there are light scratches behind the door handles and a large light scratch on the side, think its a branch scratch. Debating wether ti get the engine bay done as well.

You would be surprised at what a clay bar would remove from the surface after pre wash & wash stages, if you skip the clay stage you would risk inflicting defects to the paintwork!
