fex
Hey, Where would the best place to put a port hole in a double 12" subwoofer box be? I'm not getting enough response for bass so I presume it needs more air? fex
bongo
what do you mean by response? adding a port will just deepen the bass.

Stu
You don't just randomly add a port. A port is a tuned length which works with the particular characteristics of your sub. If you look for the ts parameters for your sub, you can put them into a speaker calculator and find out what box volume and what diameter/length port you need. SteveB
Stu is spot on. You should set the port to tune the box a few Hertz below speaker free air resonance. Randomly adding a port can blow up your speaker and amp.
alexc1983
from my expenience, and ive done alot of installs. For quality a sealed enclosure is far superior to a ported one. People who go for high spl have ported enclosures but its not quite as simple as drilling a hole. Depends on volume of box ect. Sounds like you need a much bigger amp as most 1000watt amps only actually produce about 250 watts rms at 4 ohms.
