massivewangers
I must say, this is probably the most un-enthusiastic enthusiasts site I've ever been on... ....worse than passionBMW even...It's more about being realistic. We could all tell him "ahh yea you've got the very last mk6 ever Fcuking wow great job my new best friend, keep it in a bubble for 20 years and then sell it to Theo Paphitis and you're going to be a millionaire for the rest of your life and live in a villa in Florida with a super model." But lets face it, that's NOT going to happen, sorry to pee on his parade but I prefer to live in reality, not cloud 9. I didn't mean lie to the guy... But answers of just a couple of words aren't ever so helpful to someone seeking information. And it was more a comment on how most people on here are now of the attitude of just throwing cars away and not giving a rubbish about them. Obviously that's how a lot of people treat old Escorts (and most other cheap cars), but it staggers me that this is supposed to be a forum for enthusiasts, yet a huge proportion of it's members aren't interested in the slightest and are too busy creaming over something German or Jap. Seems odd to me, tis all.

Lee_2f2f
The way I can say for you to get a definate answer mate is to contact Ford and just ask them what the Registration was that your model ended production in, That way you can see how late your escort is to the rest. there are a very rare site to see a 2001 51 plate Escort. I have only ever come across one, and even that is only a picture. Give ford a Buzz, they are your best bet fella! Ignore the negative responses, there is alot of negativity on here lately, Welcome to EVO if you do need any further help, do not hesitate to ask us. Seems odd to me, tis all. i think it all depends on how passionate about the cars the people are for example my si needed the sill plating up and a few other bits of mechanicle work, where as some people would of just thrown it away where as i dont want to as i like the car and dont intend on getting rid of it just like i dont intened on getting rid of my mk1 which has had a lot of work that most people would not even considered doing i know there are better cars out there than escorts but that is where my passion lies mainly with the older ones like the mk1 and mk2's but i am still passionate about my mk6 and want to make it go and stop better

mattius
probably best to find out what the last chassis number to come out the factory was then see how that relates to yours. Or if you pull back the carpet on the n/s of the boot there should be a slip of paper stuck to the side, this has the spec and i think the date it was made. Andyb0127
Most of the last cars were Y plates, though there has been a few 51 registered cars too. Vans went on a bit longer. But youMrs is pretty late on an X, so one of the later ones. By that time they were only making five door hatch and estate models, with either a 1.6 16v, or a 1.8TDI engine. Trim levels were Flight or Finesse, so it was a pretty basic range by that time! Thanks for the info was told by relative that this one has ghiaTrim in it not quite a classic yet but was planning on keeping it hopefully one day it mite be lol No problem mate. Sadly I don't think they'll ever see the status that MK1 and 2 Escorts have achieved, as their rallying success is far less known, but I don't see why they won't pick up some value eventually, most Fords do. That is, unless all cars get banned and they have us all on public transport!Yeh understand they never be like the good old mk1 mk2 escort prob worth more to me than anyone else... Not worried about the attitude on here your gona get that with any club the odd few that think there clever.. But thanks for the advice and help greatly appreciated
KNITERIDER
10-15 years ago 3 doors were a grand or so in mk1 and 2 shapes. but i dont think a fwd scort will make it. mk3 and 4's arnt reqally collectors items. remember being made and being registered are 2 different things. either way enjoy the car
SteveB
The VIN plate gives the year of manufacture. As said earlier, the cars were built and stockpiled so the year of registration has no bearing on the year of manufacture.
stoo2000
I agree with the 2 above, it's only a mk6 Escort ffs, just enjoy it, and when it finally turns into a bucket of rust (which is will) just scrap it and get a new car.If we all thought like that, what's the point of spending money to change bits and make it better (just like you've done). I don't ever imagine selling my Orion, it did have some rust, it's been fixed. It's cost alot of money, but it is an awesome car.

Not quite right there Ross. RS1600i's go for thousands, good ones go for £4k plus easy unless the seller needs a quick sale. Ive seen mk4 XR3i's sell for £1500 plus (good condition, not mint, in my eyes), even heard of a 88 XR3i selling for over £4k. Even the non RS/XR mk3/4's that are left are increasing in value. On the late Escort front, I have seen 1 on a 51 plate, a few on Y's, but they are probably just late registered, I would have thought production would have ended in 99 once the Focus was into production Edited August 19, 2010 by Trig
KNITERIDER
Good point. I still can't see them making the books like mk1 and mk2 granted some of the rs and 1600 might get closer. I think the downfall is fwd. BUT they have the boxy look which is getting rarer. I think it's gonna be a far off second to the mk1 and 2 tho. Like owning a lotus instead of a Ferrari. HIGHTOWER
Mk1 and 2's are worth a bit because of how rare they are! What made them rare? People saying "It's only a mk1/2 escort! Just run it till it rusts, scrap it and get a new model!" ....The more of them that DO rust away, in years to come where there's nearly none left, they WILL increase in value, I'm sure. Due to the fact this generation of people are a "throw it away" generation, it could be sooner than you think... At the end of the day, EVERY car is "just a bit of metal" so why are some worthwhile caring about, and others not? ....Gotta agree that on an escort forum, I too would expect people to be more enthusiastic about the "metal" that builds an escort!
