heavyrightfoot
I own a 1995 1.8TD LX because it’s cheap to run and keeps passing MOT's at minimal costs (cost me £85 in repairs yesterday to pass). Although the car is slowly rusting away it’s also the car that I can leave in the supermarket and not worry about too much. I am even passed caring about attempts that have been made to steal it. The car cost me £300, 3 years ago and in total I doubt I have spent £600 on all of the repairs/services to the car and that includes a brand new clutch. Not a bad purchase when you look at it Although the Audi A3 we have on order will be an entirely different story and treated completely with kid gloves. I think will be crapping bricks driving it and leaving it at places to be honest. cheap TD for sale soon then?

cargy
Still got mine. Paid a mere £1750 for it back in 2002 to replace a pile of shoite 306. I only meant to own it for a year or two, but it's done stirling service throughout that time, and I even had to live in it for about 3 months, off and on, in 2005! It's had its niggles like every car I've ever had. But the only major failure was the diff chucking its innards out through the gearbox casing nearly 3 years back. Up till last year it's sailed through every MOT with flying colours. Because of its age I predicted it would fail last year, and I wasn't disappointed: A couple of wishbones (3 if you count the one that failed through faulty manufacture)and the rear wheel bearings. 'Twas but a few days work with my trusty trolley jack and toolkit to get a ticket back on it within a few days. I doubt I'll be that jammy this year as I've hardly driven it - giving the tinworms a chance to get busy. And "get busy" they have judging by the inner sills. Whether I'll bother to sort it is debatable because... well, like I said... I hardly use it any more. I don't come on here that often now though, and I tend to lurk more than anything. TBH, barring the useful technical info and tips the site's built up over the years, there's not much Escort-related stuff on here anymore, and at my age I don't have much in common with most of the users any more. I say "most" cos there are still a few old-skool posters whom I respect and am interested in how they're getting along. And to those I say (in the immortal words of the young Mr Grace): Carry on, everybody, you've all done very well! smithyandco
A Mondeo is basically an Escort... only; Bigger, better handling, more economical, cheaper to insure, better to look at, quicker, more practical, more reliable, easier to source cheap parts for, safer, more comfortable... did I mention better looking? I'd love another Escort as a banger to play with... like a MK1 to restore or a written off 4x4 to turn into a crazy under-steering track monster. But day-to-day... other than Lee's (Scouser, not "Ooo, here she is!") Escort, I wouldn't have another! I'm still here because this place offers entertainment! I'd miss it, if I left! This thread is a fine example of the entertainment I speak of!
