escortedal
just wondering what shell have done to make the claims about more miles to the tankfull. i seem to remember back when four star was phased out to be replaced by the all new unleaded petrol which then turned out to affect older cars with certain valve seats and other running issues. what have they done to make this petrol more efficient than normal unleaded?and has anyone had or heard of any problems with this new petrol ? reason i ask is that after using the stuff in my 1.8 escort it seems to run a bit hotter than with standard unleaded. might be a coincedence but to make fuel more economic they would probably have to make it burn stronger to produce more energy than conventional fuel.so if it burns stronger will this make the engine run hotter due to a bigger ignition in the fuel/air mixture. EscortNreg
Dont you read the leaflet they give you? All they have done is made the petrol "smoother" by adding extra lubricants and they have added more detergents to clean the engine as the petrol goes through. I was only making a slight attempt, at humour, has anybody actually, got a price on this new shell petrol, and around here, shell is abut 2.9p ltr more expensive than BP, so sorry if my attempt at a little humour has fallen dead. [ . D a r k // ]
Our local shell has just got this stuff in @112.9 a litre which is still 2p a litre cheaper than anywhere else. I've always filled up at shell, and will be doing a 300 mile trip so will see if I get any extra mileage.

Same, i'm using it at the moment, not really noticed any difference, but then i'm not driving an escort. Maybe its running a bit hotter cos of the weather? geordie_aaron
i got worse MPG with the new stuff probably because the additives were helping to clog up certain 'issues' within the block?! lol

chrisxn
I've used this for a few weeks and have noticed.. Absolutely nothing! I figured i'd test the claims but no extra mpg, no nothing.. I kept using it though as its 1.13 whereas everywhere else barring asda is 1.15!
