Im not the biggest fan of the mk2, i prefer the mk1. My mates mrs has a mk1 160 in trophy blue and its bloody lovely.

Do you find the seat to be abit high in the car? i drove hers with the seat all the way down and it till felt abit high, the car drove really well tho :)

Another mate of mine had a 214si, it got thrashed everywhere for nearly 20k and all that went was the clutch.

HGF can be a problem after about 40k, but its just one of those things

The ZS is the same, its quite a high driving position. Get used to it, though.

k-series is actually quite a good engine. have to rev it a bit to get some power out of them but my 95 214sei had the 105PS (103BHP) 1.4 MPFi 16V DOHC K-series engine (same as yours) and had 80K and HG never failed because it was well looked after. just keep an eye on thermostatic switch in the rad as these do fail meaning in traffic the fan wont cut in causing overheat and HG fail. typically these go around 7 years. one of 2 main causes. other being not checking coolant level and it dropping.

excessive revs dont do it as i spent most of my time up near the red line :P

prefer the styling of the mk1 ZR myself but then again i prefer the old wedge shape rover 200 over the bubble anyway :) one day might get a 220GSI turbo :P 200bhp out the box and with simple tweaks easy 250 and just needs uprated shocks and springs to cope.

my rover on standard suspension rolled like the titanic through bends but with the GMAX shocks and springs i fitted it cornered on rails.

miss that car and replaced it with the escort cos i wanted more comfort and aircon. part of me wishes i'd just got softer shocks for the rover and had aircon retro fitted and brake system uprated (brake balance was well off after i swapped the standard solid milk bottle tops up front for uprated GSI turbo vented front stoppers)

btw, best piece of advice i can give. use fully synthetic oil. these have hydraulic tappets and as you tend to need to rev the engine the tappets will wear and sound crap (why most rovers have noisey tappets). mine were just starting to get noisey and i did an oil change to 5W-40 fully (halfords own) and noise vanished and even in colder months was fine with high revs for a cold engine
