To the OP, I'm a tax advisor, so deal with HMRC on a daily basis

Do your payslips have a tax code? if it says code 'BR' and you normally only pay tax at 20%, you will probably be due a repayment.

i've got 5 payslips from present employer with BR on :-) i purposfully didn't send P45 in so i'd be hit with heavy tax to claim it back intime for christmas lol ended up being chansed by employer for p46 for the end of year so done that then sent off for tax rebate........our local tax office has a 8week back log LOL they said they were going to go back to 2008 as he could see i was due money back from previously being on the dole (booooo), had to send me employment/benefit history since 08'..........i'm currently 5 weeks into the 8 mentioned above....how quick do they usually release payments? i've got ~£500 from present employer due :-D

Is the repayment from your current employer for 2009/10 or the current tax year (2010/11)? If its for the current year, your payroll will just adjust your code, backdated to April, and you'll get some sort of repayment in your next salary. Thats how it SHOULD work. But like I say, if it IS for the current year, that will be down to your employer once they get an updated PAYE code from HMRC. (Everything is processed online these days, so it shouldn't take that long)!

As for your earlier years repayments, its anyones guess. If they say 8 weeks, I'd hold them to that as long as they have all of your up to date info. The last thing you would want after 8 weeks is a letter asking for more documents! If its any comfort, my rebate last year only took 4 weeks, which was pretty good. Mine was a BACS payment though (I sent them bank details with all my documents). If its a cheque you're expecting, it may take a little longer. BUT, you weren't expecting anything, so to get something back at all is a bonus :thumb:
