GTi Chris
prob your bairings. mine whined a lot these where the bairings lolhttp://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c126/scortpower/carbits021.jpg Lol btw I have no clue what that photo is meant to be but I'm glad it made you laugh they are bairings from the gearbox i had that made a whinning noise as you can see they aint round hence why it made the whinning noise Apologies it was the spelling of bearings/ bairings that threw me- are these the differential bearings or from inside the box? SO YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE GEARBOX THEN? (sorry again mate if I appeared to come across as being funny)
scortpower
well i replaced the box anyway as it were a cheap box i had so it were better to just replace it. it was only when my mate stripped the box down he found them couldnt tell you which part they were from thou. The box only cost me 40 quid but my escort seemed to like destroying boxes with the torque it were putting out so were alway cheaper to just chuck another box in as and when. GTi Chris
The Lucas oil (50/50 with normal transmission fluid) seems to have quitened?!? it down somewhat. The fluid I changed also appeared discoloured and it had only been in there for around 20k. I'll try changing the diff bearings next- don't wanna buy a 2nd hand box unless I really have to- better the devil you know and my car has only done 52k.its a super charger Ye mate- thanks for that Does the noise sound like this? This is from it was happening on mine and it went after changing the gearbox (and driveshafts). *...EDIT*: Sorry, embedded vids dont seem to be working too well on here atm... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DD2JZBmWUw Thanks for posting up the video mate- you can hear it in 1st on your car mine isn't quite that bad you can only hear it in higher gears at lowish speeds. I'm not surprised a new box and driveshafts fixed it mate Tbh I'm too fussy and should probably just turn up my radio until it breaks and take it from there AND THE BOX IS FUBARED!!!! i wouldt hesitate to get a gd second hand box its goining to be cheaper more time saving ............. the amount of times u will be taking the box in and out to rectifiy the fault as it may not be diff bearings could be worn teeth and syncro or shaft bearings. speak to heavyrightfoot i bet he would have one lying around he would hapily sell to u. Ye it's the box thank fook I didn't waste money on diff bearings. Big thanks to STONEY for trying to help me out when I didn't wanna listen- hate replacing would rather repair if possible. Any tips on identifying "a gd secondhand box" as mileage doesn't always help as my car done 52k and the box is FUBARED. Will try to get one locally 1st before contacting Heavy..... and Ryk.... Thanks again to all for advice- noise posts are awful on forums hard to diagnose eg Sounds like a fartin noise from my backend. Was a fart (had the radio loud)- noticed skids in my trollies when I did my laundry
