Naylor2006
Just a quick question chaps. On a MK6 1.6 Zetec what is the max rpm and what type of rev limiter does it have and how does it work? Ive done a search here and google but i just cant seem to get the answer, I dont really want to jump in my car and boot it and see how far it goes to end up with blown valves or something. Have far will is safely rev? ITs probably in my handbook but if anyone has been to the limit on one of these and has experience would be good to hear from you. Stu
Rev limiter is in the form of a spark cut at a particular rpm.. the 1.6 though runs out of steam before you hit the limiter so it's a bit of a drag getting it up there.. just go flat out in 1st until it hits the limiter.. don't be scared.. scottg17
the limiter is there to prevent damage from revs higher than it. as far as i know people have said a zetec will rev happy to 8000rpm all day with no probs
Stu
Good luck with that..

I have a PBV, K&N, mongoose catback stainless, performance leads and plugs and yes i'm scared to see how far it will rev. Its screaming at 5500 and im not out of steam but it sounds so loud that somethings gonna go bang! It doesnt sound unhealthy just i get the impression its unhappy about going further judging by volume. Maybe ill trial it on the way home.
JC
you can rev it to about 6,5k revs, but iirc, pek power is about 5,5k

rebellious
my rev counter doesnt match the limiter! ecu limited to 7200 counter always reads 6700 max
bongo
6250rpm on 1.6 and 1.8 ecu and 6750rpm on 2.0 ecu iirc stu said the head chokes after 6k,so no point going beyond that on a standard engine.

I think it was a dunnel engine or something....i read it in a FF mag ages ago. i know it cost a fortune to build.
