KNITERIDER
following on from my other thread about getting a new job: iv recently been doing some work as an aircraft cleaner at east midlands (to pay the bills its shite money!!) what worries me is the lack of security. i was asked to work there 3 hours before my first shift was to sttart. other than filling in the job centre forms there were no security checks and the one security form i filled in was laughable. on turning up with either my birth certificate or passport at the airport i was issued a 5 day pass which will then be made a 60 day pass with no more checking. from there on i am walked into the runways/aircraft bays by the person who has had his checks. i am supposed to be supervised at all times but am not, i walked between several planes and as i had to leave early one night (my first as it happens) he couldnt be bothered to escort me out so said to me go on my own. i subsequently got lost and was walking where i pleased for 15minutes with no one asking me who i was before i found someone to help me find my way out. ont he planes i am allowed into the cockpit of the plane unsupervised and again to wonder about as i please near enough. baring in mind i could be ANYBODY. a number of staff arnt even english, let alone speak any! on top of this there is the cleanlyness issues, believe me when i say take some alcohol wipes or something. the tables and kitchen area ont he plane is often cleaned with the same water and even cloths as the TOILETTE is cleaned with, thats if they bother at all. half barely get a wipe over its disgusting, the amount of bacteria on things must be horredous. i said something the other day about the water and they just said its fine, just dont admit to it!!! also no liquids are supposed to pass security but a few said they had got LITRE bottles in before! if they can get that in what stops them passing a bomb in? im very tempted to go to a big paper to see if they are interested, whats ur thoughts? KNITERIDER
thats what i was thinking, go to the sun, they are always asking for stories and it'd be a piece of pee to get an undercover journo in there. its a bit scary that ANYONE could be in there fiddling with things and how unhygenic things are as well, they would have a field day! Craig855S
That's pretty damn shocking that. What airline do you clean for? Or is it one company clean every aircraft that lands? We have cleaners that do the RAF and civvi aircraft here, they are vetted before being employed and arent allowed on the aircraft without one of us techies being there, and they arent allowed in the flight deck other than to empty the bin. It's our job to dust and hoover the flight deck. Are you searched before going in each time to make sure you dont have liquids? Surely you dont pass through the same security that passengers do. KNITERIDER
im working for an agency who supply east mids, we do any plane, so far been doing ryanair (seriously they barely get the seats wiped!!) bmi, althogh the most thorough, as they are getting thoroughly checked as they are based there, the stuff (like water and cloths) doesnt make it any better, and iv done a couple of small airlines. yes you get searched, well some have been patted down i havnt yet, and items are scanned, its the staff tunnel so different security but same proceedure as the public would get. from the accounts iv heard, one was in a van they didnt check and the other liquid was in his bag, so they cant of checked it at all. either way il be going to the papers and if they arnt interested il go through the airport themselfs. This has shocked me bad style, of late I have been well impressed with the security at airports, as in, being a passenger, this is scarey, yes the papers if you want to really let it out of the bag, and maybe get some wonga, but me ,I would be tempted to go to airport police/security with this one, in my opinion a very very serious matter!!!!!! They will hush it up but they may also change their vetting procedures and check everyones bags, however i doubt the manager of the place will catch word of it. If you go the papers on the other hand you'll make the manager look bad so he'll change the policy a huge amount, which is for the better..some people may lose jobs...
