Something that has always puzzled me in all my years on Evo.

I see many engine mondeo swaps with problems regarding the pats system. Basically having problems finding non pats ecu so that you can get around the transponder problem. If its so hard to start when you have a pats system on your own car then surely without having your key then the pats enabled escorts cannot be hotwired?

Why would any other immobilizers be needed?

Isnt a pats escort unstartable without the exact key?

i totally agree with your statement . but i know how to get around a pats system its not easy but it can be done

Yes I understand it can be got around but are you saying you can do this on aproaching a random car?

Im talking more about security rather than modification.

In theory could you walk up to my car & after breaking in bypass my pats & start the engine?

on a escort yes .but its all down to how much time if i was to borrow your car than i would hook it up to a truck and deal with it later

You realise im talking about your average sneak oppurtunist thief dont you? Im not talking about professional stealing to order. Im asking if you could hot wire my car on the spot with minimul tools, how long would it take you? How much time will you need?

I would hope a thief willing to load a car onto a truck and take it would have more sense and be targetting more valuable cars, not a mk6 escort.

first off i dont nick cars just incase someone thinking tea leaf right now thats out of the way

your right your average thief would not have enough brains to do this.

were i work we have a sets of looms ready made to bypass most if not all factory fitted security systems. armed with just a little knowledge a smart thief could do this but saying that it would not be a m6 unless it was a cossi and than that was a good few years ago when thay were worth more

to answer the question how long with minimul tools ie 2 tools and a length wire minimum damage 2 minutes flat that on a m6 others very

So to my original post, why on earth need a pre pats ecu & all the fuss of re wiring when doing engine swaps if all you need is a length of wire and 2 minutes?

Because not everyone knows where to put this length of wire, and publishing it online would be stupid, however, the pre-pats ECU rewiring is a 30 minute job and not difficult.

If I had another mk6 I'd consider going for the keyless ignition route, It is a piece of pee to do, but may scare potential buyers away when you come to sell.

Heck I'd happily keyless ignition my pug and have absolutely no fear of it being robbed.

Mclovin If the tea leaf gets your keys, they deserve your car! Wise up. Trying to make a mk6 escort unstealable incase your keys get stolen is the most rediculous thing i've ever heard.

Cheers, looks like i satarted something. :)

As for using the 'theif got the keys' was just an example, never happened never will. I always leave my keys taped up underneath the whel arch (but im not telling you which one har har!)
